Having your good self join the fray has put the icing on the cake that is Auntie Beebs coverage of this season! (But if you could teach that (nice) bloke Legard a bit about broadcasting etiquette, I would be forever in your debt!)
Keep that insight in shape over the winter Ted, your country needs you.

FIA, TWG, FOTA, non-FOTA..... They all need to get it sorted out!

The teams have got millions to spend and millions they WILL spend. That's not likely to change.

At the moment, a vast proportion of those millions is being 'wasted' on developing 'aero-tweaks'. What use is that to the world at large?! The reason being because, especially with an 'engine freeze', that's what the rules currently encourage.

What if they changed the engine freeze to an 'aero freeze'? Imagine if the teams were free to develop whatever powerplants they wished, but with an ever increasing carbon output allowance.

F1 really would have some relevance for the future then!

Your classic Hungarian Grand Prix 07:50am on 22 Jul 2009 I've just watched the epic '89 GP highlights and two things have struck me as being very different from what we see today and one thing has reminded me very much of what we do see this year.

Firstly; How close could one car follow behind another?! Very close! Around such a high downforce circuit, and through the twistiest parts, cars could follow virtually nose to tail.
That shows me that the Overtaking Working Group have got a lot of 'Working' yet to do!

Secondly: What power that Honda engine had! The way it just pulled away on the straights! It was a bigger difference than KERS vs non-KERS, really!

And finally, I got the distinct impression that the 2nd & 3rd placed drivers just abandoned Nigel, once they'd got their trophies. No 'friendly' group photos in those days!

Hi Andrew,

2006 please. I'd love to see Jenson getting it all right and having his first win, again.
As a second choice, it has to be 1989. Seeing the race that 'Il Leone' got one over 'The Adversary' would make me smile;)

Nice report Ted.
Rubens has another reason for 'disappointment' if you ask me, and that's his performance.
After out qualifying and getting a better start than his team mate for the second race in a row, he then just seems to lose pace and urgency after the first few laps.
Remember Barcelona? Rubens just couldn't understand how he lost the race!
And the last race at Silverstone, after being about half a minute behind him, Jenson had virtually caught him by the end of the race. Also, several other drivers were complaining about 'being stuck behind Rubens' at some point.
I think that Rubens should look at his own performance as much as the teams.
