BBC - Proms - Prom 30: BBC Symphony Orchestra 11:23pm on 07 Aug 2009 What a treat to hear The Fountains of Rome at the Proms - at last. The Pines tends to happen every year and much as I love that piece, I have loved the Fountains for very many years and have never heard it performed. It was a powerful performance, even if the audience gave it a somewhat lukewarm reception!
BBC - Proms - Prom 29: BBC Philharmonic 12:04pm on 07 Aug 2009 I have to say what a wonderful prom, thank you BBC, the performance of Respighi's Pines of Rome was definitely the best I have heard, and to see it live on BBC4 was an absolute joy. I do wish you would show more live concerts on BBC4. Many thanks indeed
The painted lady butterfly phenomenon 8:25pm on 03 Jun 2009 I recently spotted large numbers of these beautiful butterflies in the New Forest. I stopped at a lay-by a few miles from Ringwood and sadly there were a lot of these dead on the ground. I watched for a while and I saw a lot of them attempting to cross the very busy main road and being caught up in the traffic slip-stream. I have never seen so many butterflies of any kind at one time, it was so sad to see them all succumbing to the traffic, if only they had flown a bit higher up they would have been alright.
