Ponting left laughing as England get the script wrong 03:35am on 10 Aug 2009 The optomists who say that England haven't done too badly (as it's 1-1) seem to conveniently be forgetting our pretty dire performance in Cardiff where we were totally outplayed with bat and ball. It was only the sterling efforts of Collingwood, Anderson and Panesar that saved England. Poor play from England in this test is therefore nothing new.

England should seriously consider bringing Ramps into the side at 3 and resting Bopara for the Oval Test. It's risky but no guts, no glory! Also we need a second spinner so that means either Panesar or Rashid (probably Panesar) in for Harmison.
Getting away with it 04:54am on 13 Jul 2009 Collingwood deserves a medal for the way he played! Without him, the whole thing would have been over by tea. Both Anderson and Panesar were superb (feel a bit sorry that Monty is probably going to be dropped for Lords after an effort like that) and showed the top 5 how to go about saving a Test match.

Having said all that, the Aussies outplayed us in every department and really should have won.

As an England fan I was pretty ashamed at the tactics of sending out the 12th man and physio in order to waste some valuable time. That clearly wasn't in the spirit of the game and shouldn't be allowed to happen again! Some very ordinary captaincy by Strauss.

Still, it was a thrilling Test match and Thursday can't come around soon enough. Well done Colly, Jimmy and Monty!!!
History in the making 3:26pm on 07 Jul 2009 Should be a fantastic series. Think that England's chances are pretty good but we shouldn't underestimate this Australian side. THey may be lacking the big names but Australia have never toured with a poor side.

I think a 2-1 win for England!
England World Twenty20 player ratings 02:30am on 16 Jun 2009 I think Bopara deserves to be rated at 8, rather than 7. He and Pietersen were the only ones capable of consistently scoring runs.

On the other hand, rating Collingwood's performance at 6 is rather generous. Apart from his fielding, what does he really add to the squad? His captaincy has been mediocre at best and his performance with the bat has been worse!

England's big problem in this whole competition has been a lack of big hitters in the middle order. The team runs out of steam after Bopara and Pietersen are dismissed. Perhaps the selectors should consider looking to the counties for a couple of batsmen who can hit the boundaries at will.
England left to absorb shocking defeat 3:10pm on 06 Jun 2009 The omission of Mascarenhas was a glaring mistake. England weren't able to hit a single six in their entire innings which showed a lack of big-hitters in the team. The dutch innings was a revelation! They had no problem going for the big boundaries and that's where England really lost it (not to mention some farcical fielding in the final over).

As for the opening ceremony - what a shambles! No fireworks, no performances, and just a couple of speeches to signal the start of a major international tournament (shades of the farcical opening of the 1999 world cup - again at Lords). Perhaps the ECB/ICC should consider hiring the services of Lalit Modi for these types of things? We may not like everything he does but you can't deny that the man knows how to put on an impressive show!

All set for the World Twenty20 9:13pm on 29 May 2009 Crazy scheduling! I know that the BBC don't have the live rights (as usual SKY have got them) but there's got to be some way that the BBC could have gone without The One show for a couple of weeks and stuck the highlights on during that 7:00pm slot. It's the World 20/20 cup for goodness sake! And it's being held in England!! Talk about not doing a competition justice!
