I believe that the comment about Ryan Moore's footwear may have been for the benefit of the 606'ers who contributed to my thread/rant of a few months ago with regards the preciousness of golf clubs who will sell trainer style golf shoes in their pro shop, or allow players to go out in shoes with no spikes yet still won't allow people to play in trainers. As to whether or not Moore's shoes had spikes, I don't know, but when the biggest company in golf shoe manufacturing make shoes with no spikes http://www.footjoy.co.uk/catalog/mens.asp?c=9
it isn't hard to fathom that they may not.

Credit crunch bites as Tour revises schedule 10:43am on 07 Oct 2009 I can see why the phone ahead system could be seen as a good thing, but surely when on the golf course all you want is a sandwich or a roll to tuck into (maybe a soup during the winter months), and there's nothing like getting the chance to eyeball the options before choosing what you want. When you put the halfway hut near to toilet facilities - not everyone wants to nip into the bushes - it all makes perfect sense as it creates teh perfect reason for a 2 or 3 minute stop.

A nice simple sign saying "If you use these facilities you forfeit your position on the course to the group behind" means that there are no issues should the group behind not wish to stop off.

Tiger has been on the other side of the draw plenty of times - in fact the last time the US Open was at Bethpage, Sergio suggested that play would have been cancelled had Tiger been out in the worst of the weather as Sergio had been. Was he just being bitter or was he basing that on something? Who knows.

Sadly i've got nothing to show for it as i've always felt that betting on golf is a mugs game. By the way Bob Bubka, the golf analyst and reporter (much like yourself) also called it.

Perfect, now that everyone else will be hitting those troublesome lateral shots Ian Poulter will probably have his best ever chance of winning a Major.

It does seem ridiculous that the USGA would choose not to allow this, quite common, practice to be used. They can say all that they want about prestige or the historic values of the game but the fact is a tournament that over-runs, as this one may well do, is always going to be looked at with a slight asterix - on that note, can you imagine the issues if it runs through to Monday and then ends in a tie with an 18 hole play-off required on the Tuesday?.

(what could they do to try and get things done on time? Surely 3 ball groups on the weekend wouldn't be considerd would it?)

On a different, but linked, note I can tell you that Dennis Franz - Sipowicz - is a good guy. Years ago I caddied for one of his mates who was in a group of 12, including Franz, who were over for a weeks golf in Scotland all on Franz's bill. Now that's what i'd like in a friend :-)
Ramsay's trial by video 9:43pm on 07 Jun 2009 So we're allowed to discuss the Perry situation now? Any attempt to do so on 606 a few weeks ago was quickly removed by the moderators, strange that.....

Golf has had a good reputation for players calling penalties on themselves or preventing opponents from incurring penalties, it's always been one of the best features of golf. It does seem, in the case of Ramsay, that the officials may have been hoping that he would do so rather than forcing them to actively punish him. By leaving it in his hands they have essentially said that they wouldn't punish him if he said that he was content - that isn't strong leadership.

Cases like Perry, and O'Meara at the 1997 Lancome Trophy, are very strange situations - what good comes from bringing these incidents to light so far after the fact? All that it really does is to bring controversy to the tournament and taint the players' name. If it is a clear case of cheating then i'm all for flogging them but all of these seem to be firmly in the 'grey' area.

Still, it would be nice to get back to the days of Bobby Jones and the decision to penalise himself at the 1925 US Open - "You may as well praise a man for not robbing a bank" - now that was a gentleman playing a gentleman's game.
Stars to face Tour appearance orders 5:28pm on 01 Jun 2009 Terrible proposal and I really hope that this is the last that will ever be heard of the idea.

If the powers that be honestly think the big names will add another event to their schedule I can't help but feel that they are being naive. So, Wentworth and the BMW get another couple of big names, but what happens to the events that might find themselves cut from the players schedule? These could be events that aren't in as healthy a condition as the BMW PGA, and who depend a LOT more on the appearance of their one or two marquee names. For the likes of Sergio, will he decide that he'll take the tax hit or will he cut down on one of his other appearances on these isles?

Will players who are already looking more to the PGA tour decide that this might be where their future lies rather than have their schedule dictated to them?

The simple fact is that players should be allowed to choose their own schedule, the big players have EARNED this right by virtue of their work to get to that position. You cannot dictate to players that they MUST play an event that may throw off their schedule (on that note, i'm amazed by how well Casey has coped despite criss-crossing the pond so frequently recently) on a course that they may feel, with some justification, will do more damage than good to their golf game.
