British GP saga close to conclusion 9:28pm on 03 Dec 2009 Have to agree with the posts about Heidfeld - I'd pick him as a second driver over Kubica any day, and a good second driver is what Mercedes will need next year. Kubica can dream of Ferrari and go there when there's a vacancy, I can't see him doing more than Heidfeld at Merc.
What Mercedes buy-out of Brawn could mean 9:34pm on 16 Nov 2009 Rosberg and Raikkonen at Mercedes? I hadn't thought of that combination before...but I think although Kimi and Macca are each others' first choices, we will see the Finn go the way of compatriot Mika Hakkinen and take a "sabbatical" which he will not return from.

All credit to Button if he goes to McLaren and it's not just for the money, to have the guts to go against Hamilton, though it'll be a challenge too far I reckon, though perfect from Hamilton's point of view, as Button is unlikely to beat Lewis on the day but can be counted on to finish ahead of his other rivals when Hamilton needs Jenson to.

Watching Vettel on the podium their leads me to ask the question, why do drivers never sing their national anthems? Are they banned from doing so?
Toyota exit shifts F1 balance of power 12:22pm on 04 Nov 2009 A shame - I thought they would survive. All Toyota really needed was a top driver that could bring the team to the front, like Schumacher did for Ferrari, but it never looked like happening.

Being cynical, but I can't help but think that of the three manufacturers who have pulled out, it's no coincidence that all were lacking in constant success. Although I don't believe manufacturers are the big bad wolf some make them out to be, the dangers of them treating F1 as a marketing arena, a play thing which is only worth keeping when it's going well, are more apparent than ever.

Kudos to Renault for being the exception and sticking with F1 despite a downturn in form, and I hope they get their act together soon and address the fundamental problems with the car. They've struggled in the Bridgestone era, so maybe they can hang on until 2011 when Bridgestone will pull out, and things might be better for them.

Apart from the sadness at the inevitable job losses this will produce, I hope Kamui Kobayashi gets a seat next year.

Your classic F1 season finale 8:25pm on 28 Oct 2009 #12 It wasn't that great a race, nor as dramatic as its successor. Kimi winning the WDC based on a mechanical problem and not seriously being challenged by his team-mate for the lead isn't the making of a great finale in my opinion!

2006 should have been on this list, really (though it would never have won because of being an ITV race).

Still, I'm sure even though I'd never heard of half of these races before, I'll enjoy them! Thanks for this great feature, Andrew, and I hope we get goodies over the winter! Pick you favourite F1 season with 5-minute or full highlights (whichever is easier for you to run) would be a great idea!

And I agree - the lack of a US Grand Prix is nothing short of disgraceful.
