Do you believe we should send more British troops? 12:51pm on 14 Jul 2009 With regard to 'Carries' comment, could I just add a comment to the effect that ALL of the troops serving there are volunteers. When one becomes a soldier it should be apparent that the risks involved therewith could involve injury or death. Having stated this, what does a boy of 16 or 17 know of life, and what is on offer without putting your life on the line. The jingoism and advertising attaching to the recruiting is appalling. These vunerable people who have been playing computer generated games, where the opponents are eliminated with ease should be made aware that real bullets and missiles are not quite so easy to dodge. With regard to the reasons for them being there, what a complete farce
A new style of Speaker? 4:48pm on 23 Jun 2009 I think, perhaps, this Parliament now has the Speaker it deserves. One of his first statements was to the effect that the majority of MP's were honest, and there for the benefit of the people. This is patently untrue, would he not have been better advised to announce the publication of a list of the MP's who had NOT taken advantage of the expenses fiddle, as it surely was, so that those not on the list, including himself, could be disposed of at the General Election, whenever that will be. If we are honest with ourselves, isnt it just possible that this sad collection of MP's in fact reflect the society we live in and the depths to which we all have sunk. Very rarely a day goes by without a shocking story of man's inhumanity to man [or children], and each time we think it can't get worse...but it does. It is not only Parliament that has experienced the debasement of authoritarian figures, look at the Police for example......... In any event this joke of a Parliament together with its poser of a Speaker will eventually pass into memory. Roll on.
Reporting restrictions in Iran 1:30pm on 21 Jun 2009 Why are we so interested in whats happening in Iran. There is enough to contend with in this country. This country is now being critised by the Iranians for interfering, when in fact it is only the excessive coverage by the media that gives this impression. When will this country realise that the happenings in those countries are of no interest to the majority of thinking people here. Surely we must accept that the tribal conditions in which the peoples of that region live can in no way be compared to ours. Why not leave well alone, stay out of the region, and let them deal with matters in the way they have always done so.

Bonus culture lives 10:03am on 15 May 2009 It must be obvious, even to politians, that any statement originating from parliament at this particular time, will be treated with the comptempt it deserves. Why are these people burying their heads in the sand. This collection of freeloaders must be disposed of as soon as possible. They have brought shame onto the so called democracy. Fortunately for those who have 'Been at it', and unfortunately for those who have not, they must all be lumped together. There is only one honourable course for our unelected leader to take, and that is to go to the country forthwith.... .
