News You Can Use 5:32pm on 29 Oct 2009 The future of newspapers is a fairly big concern of mine so I couldn’t let this piece get by without comment. There are quite a few issues but I will stick to one. People will always buy a newspaper for the local issues that have an impact on their lives, particularly if they have grown to trust the integrity of the newspaper. Whether it is to flesh out the story they have heard on the BBC or for all the little local titbits they could not read or hear elsewhere. They will look for multiple sources but hopefully still identify with a newspaper.
So JFE is perfectly correct in the above,– and says it far more eloquently than I could. I agree completely with quality news = more consumption.
Hopefully you are contributing to my circulation with at least one of the copies you buy JZ?

Was highly entertained with this one - until I read the very alarming paragraph about every newspaper being free. The suggestion is scary and all too topical these days. If the imaginary sole purchase was required to be a certain local daily newspaper, I could maybe live with it. But the thought still stirred a degree of panic.
Personally I would never dream of switching to commercial stations. Listeners in the north have to struggle to identify the locality of a news story or incident from the pronunciation of the place name.
So I'll will cheerfully stick with you at the BBC - just don't mention the free newspapers again. Somebody might listen. Use sweeties for a comparison, if you must. Newspapers are facing a tough enough battle as it is.

You really should take the Zed tent out to this event now that you have embraced the great outdoors. Great fun.

Enjoyed very much - to bolster your Big Top I can arrange short term loan of P&J gazebo in exchange for audience ticket. You could enter the small festival arena.
You Say Tomato, I Say Whatever 09:57am on 22 Jun 2009 I disagree with the comment that it is the same in all cities. I found London particularly rude too and I have managed to get myself lost in all sorts of cities. In New York the tendency was to shout but then go to great lengths to help. In Chicago a small crowd formed to try and help me find the restaurant I was looking for, then deliberated on whether I would get a better meal elsewhere. I was nearly escorted by a group to make sure I arrived ok. In Glasgow, I'm proud to say, I just don't dare take out a map because all sorts of people will gather round to offer advice. I end up knowing their entire life story.

I don't think it is about Londoners not having time it is more likely that they are more unwilling to share their time with a stranger.

Makes a person glad to get back to Inverness?
Maybe I'm Too Old To Twitter 2:40pm on 27 May 2009 Oh, dear. Did I start all this? Apart from Jeff's example and his stirling efforts on reporting the game, I don't really see the point of twitter other than a bit of fun. Perhaps I just don't consider things I do to be important to anyone other then me or the people I chat to anyway. So I don't think I could take it seriously.

Would have loved to have seen that home stand scramble though, Jeff. Sounded hilarious.

Five More Days Of Tension 11:28am on 20 May 2009 My husband - a committed ICT season ticket holder - says he will not forgive me. I booked the holidays and we will be mid-Atlantic during said Big Nail Biting game. Any chance you could arrange on board streaming of Radio Scotland for him? Otherwise it is going to be a very long flight.

I agree with your wife - after meeting Mr Butcher even I have started going to the games.
