Garden seating 4:14pm on 12 Sep 2009 We moved our seat onto a path facing a flower bed (about 2 feet from flower bed in fact) whilst we were building a terrace to make a pond and patio over the summer. Absolutely not where I would consider putting a seat, but it has made us eye to eye with wildlife in a way we never have been before. Bees, butterflies right in front of us working away over the flowers unconcernedly. Also the robins and blackbird whizz past us and pause in the lilac next to the seat to stare at us.

we have got used to you being shunted out of the schedules for wimbledon, even golf, but why no programme this last week? GW seems a very part time programme for the nations main gardening programme. particularly during the main growing seasons and the times of year "fairweather" gardeners are most likely to be in their gardens after being inspired by your programme.
It's been a good year for the roses 12:59pm on 09 Jul 2009 We too grew Lady Crystl for the first year this year and have had a good crop. Just as well, something has taken a fancy to our broad beans and is overnight destroying all the foliage on all the plants, just leaving the pods looking sorry for themselves, but we can't see anything on the leaves of remaining plants, or on the ground. Also our runner beans have succumbed to virus. But being polyanna-like our el greco courgettes are cropping well. Anyone got any good recipes for using up courgettes?

My favourite climber is Mme Alfred Carriere, but its not particularly disease resistant. American Pillar is my husband's favourite, and has always been rampant and disease resistant.
Additions to Alys' Garden 10:50am on 26 Jun 2009 Bessyj, I agree, pinch out the tops of the broad beans. If you get them before the aphids you can steam/boil them and eat them as greens. My neighbour says pinching out makes the beans swell in the pods.
Prairie gardens, the longest day and mulching 11:06am on 21 Jun 2009 After all our negative comments about the gw programmes this series, can I just say the last two "proper" ones (not covering GW Live) were much better. Carols teaching slot kept in one piece, the front gardens slot kept in one piece, and this week, thank goodness, no "what's hot and what's not". Did you send Alys on presenters training? She's got much better suddenly, and allowing Toby to be informative and more authoratative in his delivery gives him more presence and stature. Well done all.
The Rush of Spring 12:54pm on 15 May 2009 I notice from the programmes that work to create spaces/features/paths etc is happening apace in greenacre, but this work is not referred to or shown to us viewers - why not? We would find it very helpful to find out how you go about hardlandscaping in gardens - all of us have to lay paths or put in lawns, or even build walls at some point.
A passion for bluebells 2:04pm on 09 May 2009 I was most disappointed by the gardeners world coverage of the malvern show yesterday night. It appeared to me to relegate the horticultural content to a small part of the overall show, and gave very little information about any of the plants mentioned, or much view of the show gardens. I sincerely hope that this is not the way Chelsea or Hampton Court Flower shows will be covered as it will certainly cause me to stop watching the BBC coverage.
