Can you let us know the pundits positions please? I'd be interested to know how Hansen, Linekar, Shearer, Lawro, Keown, and to a lesser extent, Crooks are doing.
Torres, Drogba or Rooney - who's the best? 2:03pm on 02 Oct 2009 I'm a Liverpool fan, but I think Drogba is the best striker in the world.

Strong as Gilardinho, As good in the air as Toni, fast as Rooney and as finishes like Romario.

Only attitude lets him down, but that's got nothing to do with ability.

I love Rooney (the player) and think he is the most industrious and passionate striker in the world.

Torres is so skillful and great on the ball- I also don't think he's all about pace, it's all about how quickly he moves his feet and shifts the ball in enclosed spaces.

I think that the injury time was right with the celebration and the substitution- just.

What a pass to Owen? And Owenly he could be that cool to finish at that point in the match, in such a big match. Must've brought back memories from the Owen final when he beat Arsenal by himself.

Too late for England though, I think Defoe is better coming on after Heskey has battered a defence (plus Capello seems to hate Owen)

Bellemy hitting the idiot that ran onto the pitch should be lauded- fans seem to think that they can do or say whatever they want to footballers. What a suprise the cowardly mancunian fan ran upto Bellemy to have a go and not Micah Richards...
Premier danger for South America 11:53am on 21 Sep 2009 If this crop of Senior Argentina players has been told about the pride of wearing the white and blue, and the young talent were found from far and wide across Argentina, why do think a team of world class players are sruggling badly in Wordl Cup qualification?

Brazil have IMO less talented players but are breezing through qualification. Ironically, they are playing for one of Brazil's best ever captains and one of their most respected players, but you'd think that the Argentine players would be equally as fervant about playing for Maradonna, as he is an idol not only in brazil, but throughout the world..?
Getting ready for the Steel City derby 11:45am on 17 Sep 2009 I don't really follow football outside of the Premiership, and know very little of the teams in the championship, but I always watch the Sheffield Derby (I'm from Yorkshire, so its the biggest derby we've got) and just love the passion of the fans and players- it means so much to everyone involved- especially in these times of recession, when 90 m inutes can lift the mood of half the city it really is what football's all about.

Good luck to both team (although I've got it as a draw in my accumulator!)
Liverpool hope for power surge 11:37am on 17 Sep 2009 Phil- Why are you surprised that EVERY article you do on the big four degrades into a Liverpool vs Man Utd fans clash? It must drive you insane!

I'm a Liverpool fan, and I think your article is spot on mate. Liverpool were not in top gear, but got the 3 points and that's what matters. I was in Besiktas when Liverpool visited- talk about an atmosphere! It's hard enough to be an away fan in all that, let alone an away player- so yes, I'd agree that Man U's game was a harder victory- but I do wonder with them travelling and playing so late at night how much it will effect their game with City- especially as City have had a week off (personally I think it's got draw written all over it)?

As for Chelsea, a good win in poor conditions, and again, they have to play a rested Tottenham side who always give a good account for themselves against Chelsea.

I'm sure ITV will show an equal number of games to represent each English team in the Champions league this year, so I wouldn't worry about that.

As for Gerrard- I really liked the formation last night- I'd swap Lucas for Mascherano and that would be perfect until Aquilani is fit. Lucas is just too slow (in speed and his footballing brain) but it was good to see the fans getting behind him last night. Kuyt does a good job in the Gerrard role- he is a striker after all.

Torres is my worry at the moment. He seems to be getting crowded out every time he gets the ball and I think it's starting to get to him. If we'dve bought Kenwyn Jones to batter the defence Torres would get so much room he'd be unstoppable. As it stands though, it seems to be him creating the space for the rest of the team (which is fine, as long as the rest of the team is scoring when they get their chance)

Anyway, great blog Phil- just sorry about the inevitable North West slagging match...
