The PM Glass Box. 5:26pm on 26 Aug 2009 Isn't it surprising that the police kettle a few hundred non-violent climate protesters, but can't do the same with a pub full of football louts. Is it that they don't have the bottle for taking on a gang of thugs, but can get stuck in with a crowd of mostly middle-class young people of both sexes with no experience of or ability for violence?

How come the police stood by and watched [probably videoing it] as the violence escalated and ended in a stabbing, without doing anything? Perhaps it's the IQ difference; the football thugs are uneducated working class like the police, the climate protesters tend to be quite a lot cleverer, so clearly to be feared.

Think Terry Waite, another person wrongly imprisoned for years who, when released, was welcomed with a huge crowd of well wishers and celebrations. Megrahi was fitted up, I'm sure most Libyans know this, so why wouldn't they welcome him after eleven years in a foreign jail? Talk about thinking inside the box, this constant banging on about him is wearing pretty thin, especially after members of the SNP have spelled it out on air. Does the British government always have to sound like an echo of the US?

It's the economy, clever. 3:37pm on 24 Aug 2009 Ideas? Scrap capitalism, it depends on constant, unlimited growth, which, in a finite world, is impossible. Thus there will always be peaks when the airheads get over excited at their growing 'wealth', and recessions when the corrections come.

Remember, the economy, whether of a country or the world, is always based on reality; on real food production principally because without food there would be no market because there would be nobody to trade. All the rest, manufacturing, services, entertainment et al, is all dependent on affluence linked to food surplus. And only so much food can be produced on a finite world.

Capitalism exploits: people, raw materials, energy and the planet. It makes some rich beyond need and others poor.

Perhaps we'll have a public enquiry and then one day you'll all sound really silly, but I bet you won't admit these posts then. :-)))
Freeing the Lockerbie bomber. 5:31pm on 20 Aug 2009 5. It's totally apposite that he isn't guilty, that's the whole point of this fudge. He had to be made to withdraw his appeal to keep the truth from coming out, he was therefore promised this return on compassionate grounds, part of the deal, it's how politics works. If he'dcontinued with the appeal he would have died waiting, they left it long enough so he was open to the option.

The weasel words of Clinton, Obama, Cameron et al are disingenuous to put it mildly, if they don't know what went down they would have to be ridiculously naive and ill informed. They are all playing to the gallery, as they always do.

What don't they want to come out? It was masterminded by a Palestinian cell funded by Iran, a CIA operative had infiltrated the cell as a drug seller and was on the flight along with a 'payment' to the CIA for - presumably - weapons. Remember Oliver North and the Contras? It's how they work. Locals at Lockerbie reported two limos of men in dark coats who arrived very early before even emergency services and took away several packages from the scene. Use your imagination if this is all new to you, since it was all available over the years to those who took a keen interest. Including [relative] Doctor Jim Swires who almost from the start smelled a rat in the Libyan connection hypothesis, which was so flawed the judges couldn't even bring themselves to convict both 'conspirators'. The American relatives seem only to want vengence, the question of guilt isn't important apparently.
Hugh in Kabul. 5:26pm on 18 Aug 2009 What is this oleaginous cross nonsense? Could have come from the third reich archives. What century are we in? Wear it with pride? What, for dying in a shoddy little war that despite overwhelming firepower superiority will be lost in however many years it takes for it to be realised by all that it can't be won?

How many more have to die pointlessly and be rewarded with a tacky gong in exchange for a son's life just because to stop would make all the deaths pointless? So more young li9ves are wasted by politicians and aged generals who can't, won't admit they were wrong, and say sorry.
