The Republican Referendum: Ten Years On 03:26am on 08 Nov 2009 Changing to a republic is a useless waste of money. We are already a republic anyway in everything but the official name.

Thats what i love about Australia, we don't need to rely on this useless symbolic stuff to make us feel good. We are practical people who enjoy practical things to make our lives better and more comfortable. Who cares if some random in another country still thinks we are a colony of the UK, thats their problem not ours. Changing to a republic will not give us bigger houses, better working conditions, Or a big TV.

Australians are practical people who want to enjoy their lives with their friends and family. Our patriotism should come from our lifestyle, not some useless symbols that have no use. Other countries may need them, But their lifestyle isn't as good as ours so they have to take pride in something else. Most other nations are full of highly strung people. Australia is not.
Big Australia 11:13pm on 24 Oct 2009 I agree with oldnewshound. Sun is a resource, lets use it to our advantage. The government has also found lots of water underground in WA that it could pipe to Perth. It will do it in the future. Our governments have shown that they only do things when it is necessary not to improve or prevent. Its this "if it aint broke don't fix it" attitude that is slowing us down.
Is Australia needy for acclaim? 05:57am on 11 Oct 2009 Australia is the best in nearly everything. Infact if we created a movie industry to compete with hollywood, we would be perfect on all fronts. I hope all those ignorant foreigners out there come to respect Australia. We deserve it.

Australian cultural creep, not cringe 1:25pm on 31 Aug 2009 Exactly scrap-the-jack, campantman is very envious of Australian lifestyle and the country on the whole. If he didn't care he wouldn't keep coming back and attacking us over and over.

Get over it campantman you lose! Australia wins. It is by far the greatest nation on earth in terms of standard of living. It ranks 4th in the UN HDI Index, What does the UK rank? oh thats right 21st!

It is the lowest out of all the English speaking countries. You could do better than that Britain!
Victory or heist at the Oval? 09:38am on 29 Aug 2009 Also too many poms don't understand that pretty much all the great inventions were Australian, bar the TV and the Internet, pretty much all these day to day useful things and practical items were invented by Australians. Granted Australia hasn't made any world changing items like the TV and Internet, it does have its fair share of items made.

Get your facts right before you try to make a joke of a country's success or downfall. Not make a lie of it like post 119 onwards. otherwise you seem foolish!

I wish we had 100 million people, we would just own the world in absolutely everything.

Anyway good thing the pommies won, its reignited the fight! its boring smashing them all the time.

Too bad its not the 1700's then we could have a war with the pommies to settle it once and for all!

Anyway can anyone tell me why the pommies yes including those bloody celts! stole the top left half of the Australian flag? what a bunch of thieves!

Australia usually shines in every part of life apart from the movie industry and influence outside the Asia Pacific region.

When foreigners talk down Australia they are just usually jealous about how a country such as Australia could end up being so good at just about everything.
