Can non-execs cure banks' madness and badness? 07:32am on 16 Jul 2009 Non exec's on big companies including banks will always toe the line unless the annual fee is so small that they can have a non bias view. Small I mean £25000 pa.
Has the City learned anything? 10:39am on 14 Jul 2009 If this goes through it will be another nail in the coffin for pensioners. USA and China are trying to create a healthcare system and pensions of quality for the old. Weused to have the best in the world system for healthcare and pensions. Now as Boris puts it most of us get paid ' chicken feed' so we might as well all book travel for the early 'journey to heaven' clinics.
Not just any mess, an M&S mess 4:48pm on 07 Jul 2009 Rose has a best mate called Green. Green is a dictator in business who succeeds and has himself to blame when he makes a mistake. Rose is a dictator in a shareholder company who has support when he wins buts lacks support when he fails. So what has Rose reallly achieved. Anyone can do it with other peoples money , let him try with his own money or borrow it. Where is the share price now with when he joined.
Why didn't MG Rover's inspectors call in cops? 09:06am on 07 Jul 2009 The problem is that governments spend tax payers money without recourse. None of them would last in business where you have to secure your home for a loan. The government are so deep in the long grass that it is turning into manure!!!

You can have as many new beginings as you like but unless someone is prepared to become 'statesman like' and take control and dish out more punishment for failure then they are only tinkering !! We do not see much evidence of rigid control yet . This would not happen in China. Banks would need more reserves and and less very risky investment taking. Even Branson is more cautious than our bankers and that is saying something.
It is the same for most of the public sector aswell.Even the BBC needs to change. How many of the staff went to Beijing ?
Governor criticises government (again) 07:31am on 18 Jun 2009 Brown/Darling and others are keeping everything in the long grass including themselves and will spend the time from now to the election on trips/tours around the world calling them ' meetings of importance' so that they can travel free when the rest of us have to pay for holidays. They will also be working themselves into well paid consultant jobs so that the lifestyle is improved after government. They have the cheek to say the join government and politics to make better changes for our life.
Nothing changes !!!!!!
The Telegraph deserve an award for the work on expenses - Next maybe they can look into the MEP's and then the BBC.

It is about time you looked into the local and county councils and compare now with 7/8 years ago for pay and expenses.
As to Shell the shareholde4rs could all walk and then see what happens !!!
Not so stressed 4:55pm on 07 May 2009 I wrote a few weeks ago that big business usually made profits again within a year of a downturn ( barclays).Those of us in small business will take 7/10 years to recover. So be it !!!
Measuring the global crunch 07:32am on 30 Apr 2009 There is an old phrase, 'the maltese breaststroke': it probably refers to bankers and such !! They are moneylenders, they have always been moneylenders and when they find it tough going they look after themselves. Why does anyone think differently. Always spread loans/savings across the banks and not all with one. Banks will survive with a lot of business/private going down on the way.
Making banks safe 3:59pm on 28 Apr 2009 All sounds good but come on - making money is all like the klondike !! When all this regulation is over and a few more years down the line the next younger generation of finance people who want to be 'fat cats' will think of an easy quick way to make money and the herd will follow. This generation of bankers will never own up to those coming through that they were failures and will not understand the next money making scheme anyway.
What goes around comes around sooner or later. The youung will be exploring for the new gold soon.
