The Brothers tried and failed to beat every academic subject into us, Irish was no exception. Perhaps you should have a look at figures for Irish speakers provided by the Government of the Republic (Doh! of course its going to be rigged in favour of those pro-anotherlanguagethatsnotenglish types of course). The only example of beating and bullying a language into a nation I can think of is here in 19th century Wales - English being that language.

Maybe you were recalling that.

The various differences between the stances of the prospective Labour leaders in terms of language development is interesting - if the Western Mail is to be believed then Huw Lewis is all for furthering eisteddfodau, using 'immersion' techniques for learning Welsh and many more.

Maybe he is a socialist after all.

POLL! 3:28pm on 16 Oct 2009 Rewrite history and definitions all you like - the definition that counts here is the legal one - and Wales according to the Uk Government is a nation and a country (NOT a nation-state and not a sovreign nation - BUT undoubtedly a nation).

And like it or not stoned youe ARE a subject, regardless of what any politician tells you. Get wise - don't listen to the lies of politicians - and certainly not Prime Ministers, after all a particularly bad one a few years ago apparently said that there was no such thing as society - honest!

So no - you most certainly are a subject and not by any definition a citizen. Sorry.

The word you should be employing there is subject (as in subject of the Anglo-German Monarch)
POLL! 12:24pm on 16 Oct 2009 65 - Wales is not regarded as a region within the Eu - it is in fact considered a country. If you do not believe me then look it up. You are wron when you claim that under present EU regulations that Wales would be

Going around, coming around 4:37pm on 13 Oct 2009 5# Cardiffian - I was referring to the Tory toffs in Wales rather than England - follow the links in the article and you'll see that it was Nick Bourne who wanted a 'quick investigation' into the issue and was appalled at the cost of a proper investigation.

If you think that the IBW is a bad thing what would you have in its place - the old buddy-buddy WDA? (which was marvellous according to Thatcher).

And to repeat - I have never been a Plaid activist or supporter - I am in fact a 'sunderer' (drum roll and flashing lights) - by whichever party can do this the quickest. Sooner we are free from the London fat cats milking Wales, the better.

Now then Cardiffian (and I can tell by the way you write that you are an avid supporter of all things right-wing) I would suggest activist like yourself and whatever pro-British party you support need to stop insulting the integrity of the bloggers here by actually reading the article fully before you then comment on it and go instantly into Tory-boy mode.

Wow! - what a novelty - a British politician making a thorough investigation into allegations of taxpayers money being miss-used :

"It is essential that this review is both independent and comprehensive, and will provide absolute transparency and clarity on all of the issues raised."

Whilst the Tories wanted a quick and short investigation into it. You have got to wonder why, haven't you?

As long as Labour say 'no' to the Tories then it can't be bad.

As long as we remind the little people of what the Tory wreckers did to them less than a generation ago then it can't be bad.

As long as separatist parties like UKIP and the BNP exist then the support for the Tories will dilute, haemorrhage and diffuse, which can't be a bad thing.
