I've gone through all the comments on this page. Am I alone in wondering why no policeman or policewoman has entered the online debate?

There is a theme running through most all of the comments so far:
1. the Yobs know the law and how the Police will react. There is no sanction on the Yobs for making unfounded allegations against individuals protecting their property
2. the Police neither react quick enough or serious enough to deal with issues (ASB is the Council's problem)
3. those people who are brave enough to deal with the problem directly are held more accountable than the Yobs
4. the right of citizens arrest is dangerous for the individual exercising the right
5. whatever systems and sanctions exist against perpetrators are far too slow

We seem to have moved from a society which regulated itself (and where people dealt with social problems, including unacceptable behaviour, within the community)to a position where the Police or local Councils are the regulators.

Can I suggest Eddie PM should investigate Police statistics. Especialy if someone exercising his or her rights is treated as a crime solved when they accept a caution.
Diageo damage 2:29pm on 10 Jul 2009 I've worked for several international beverage businesses all over the world and including Diageo. There is no question in my mind that Diageo is by far the most ruthless in pursuing bottom line profit which of course has the happy result of generating Executive bonuses. The Company makes much of Brand building but this is not pursued as an objective in it's own right it's just a means to make even more profit. So many good brands have virtually disappeared under Diageo's stewardship (remember Haig, Vat 69, Black and White etc.?)not because they were not profitable but because they did not make enough money. Johnnie Walker is, most probably, the single largest contributor to Diageo's profits and it is a disgrace that 200 years of heritage and staff loyalty is being consigned to history in such a disgraceful fashion.
