Tangled in the Web 10:44am on 13 Oct 2009 First things first, good blog. I always read them, and enjoy them.

The second point is then that I don't normally comment, but I would like to put an opinion of how I see things being in the future. Its been said before in some papers etc, so maybe not new news or information to some of you, but none the less I want to post it.

Recently in our game we see multi millionaires buying up and spending money like crazy on our football teams. This is mostly in the premiership, but also in the Championship as well as also Notts County.

The question is then, why? Is our game becoming a breeding ground for bored multi millionaires to just spend because they want to out perform their fellow rich owners clubs? Or, is there something else.
The reason I ask is why now? People with money have been around for ages, so why the interest in football?
Also, people with stupid amounts of money (unless born into it of course) have this money through sheer hard graft, some luck maybe but most of all determination to make more MONEY.
And that thrill of making money does not go away. Why do people like Alan Sugar keep working when he can eaily buy a small island to retire on? The thrill of money.

Bear with me on this, I am getting to a point topical to the blog.

Taking my above statement/opinion into account, then think about the brading of the premiership, and the global possibilities of this being available to all home accross the world.
The best way into peoples homes is the internet, not TV.

My prediction is that soon in a few years, there wont be a Sky TV package as we know it. I predict the clubs will slowly break away from this, broadcasting their own pay per view games via the net for anyone accross the world to buy.
IF this DOES happen. Just think of the money making potential here.

Does anyone else agree with this theroy that this is all a plan towards this internet end game to rake in all the cash for the clubs individually themselves?

The England game was a dip in the toe from the FA. If the premiership goes this way, or indeed the championship and other clubs around the world, then they will see the ££££'s from doing it themselves. Ok, England as a football team is not a global brand, but would be available to everyone.

As a country we are squeezing the fans now. We pay for a TV licience, broadband fees, digital cable TV susbscriptions, and now we are expected to pay for individual matches too?
Where does it end?

I would be interested to hear if anyone else shares this view.
This country and certainly football is losing itself and alienating the one thing that makes it so great. Us, the people and the fans.

Personally I will never pay to watch any England game, be that on TV or internet. England (or any country for that matter) should be free on TV we already pay for, for the millions to watch, support and get behind.

I for one feel cheated by this, and even though I am only one person, I ask all of you that this strikes a chord with to never pay for an England game online.

One thing remains that we can control. Without the money it will not exist. They need us, the fans to provide the money and interest.

This may sound a bit heavy, but hopefully it reflects how sad I feel toward our national game right now in a time when we should be optimistic.

Comment number 57 is so far off the mark. As an Englishman I lived in Glasgow for four years, and I consider myself privaledged to have lived in Glasgow first of all, and second of all go to many Celtic and Rangers games while living there.
I have to say, Henrik Larsson was the best forward I have ever seen play....anywhere! His touch, vision, finishing, ability to read the game and gel so well with other players (he and lennon had a 6th sense!) was incredible to watch.
A league not as good as the EPL? Yes. But at risk of re0writing what has already been posted, his acheivements away from Celtic Park I think more than prove the point.
Genius and legendary player.

As for the blog, I do not normally comment, just read, but I have to say Mickey I am loving this series of blogs. Keep them coming, and good luck for the rest of the season to you and the Owls. See you at the City Ground mate!
Review of the week 3:16pm on 11 Sep 2009 haha, however I did once (years ago) actually see someone make a mistake on their computer screen and actually tippex the screen! It seems they were not profficient with computers!

About time I made it to the number one slot, but typical also that I dont have a great deal to comment other than it was a good read on an otherwise average afternoon! Keep up the work, and I hope the ashes hangover has finally gone! I also hope Forest have turned the corner after a murky start, but we can all dream ahead of the weekend huh!
