England on brink of historic breakthrough 1:56pm on 10 Sep 2009 I have been following ladies football now for about 4 years and during that time I have watched the England team progressively get better and better, but tonight will be very tough.

The big players will have to be at their best tonight in order to cause an upset. We will need to be strong at the Back with Brown on her toes and Asante & White keeping hold of Prinz (Maybe even literally). Alex Scott is the best full back in the world and needs to take her opportunities getting down that right flank to support Carney and not get exposed at the back. While the forwards (including Kelly smith) will need to take any chance they get, as there won't be many).

But I think the key to wining tonight will be Katie Chapman in the middle of the park. I personally think that she is great and if she has a good game we will have half a chance of getting a result, but she must maintain her positional play.

Whatever happens England ladies have already achieved something very special, especially as the men cannot get past the semi finals, and if we can build for the future in the same way we have in the past 5 years we will be challeneging for titles on a regular basis.

Manchester City making waves 09:11am on 24 Aug 2009 Man City will not win anything this season. Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal are a team not a bunch of collective individuels. They also all have top class managers - Mark Hughes is not, yet.

I think Man City will do well though given their finishes in the past 50 years. I think it they will be fighting it out for between 5th - 7th along with Villa and Spurs (Harry's good isn't he).

On a separate issue I think the way they have gone after Lescott is unprofessional, but that said I am glad they have signed him. £24m for a sub-standard centre half is crazy. He was only the player he was because of David Moyes and will now start going down hill. If everton use the money wisely they could sustain the threat on the second top 4.

For me though, as a Chelsea fan, I can only see Chelsea winning the league. They have a good team that has been together a number of years and who know how to win the title. They have not lost any of their players during the summer adding to last seasons squad with youth and experience - Stuttridge and Shevchenko, who I think when he gets a game playing 2 up-front will cause teams problems. At his best he was the best, now, ok he is not what he used to be but given a chance he will score and assist, as shown against England recently.

Finally, good luck to Liverpool and Man Utd for the season ahead. Arsenal appear to have overtaken you and I think they will finish as runner's up this year. Time for SAF to go - never, but he will have to start re-building team number 4-5.
Is Owen still worth a gamble? 1:02pm on 15 Jun 2009 Owen is a proven goal scorer at all levels and if he can stay fit and get some condidence, he will return to the goal scorer of old.

As a chelsea fan I still think he can offer the big four something and I would like to see Owen at Stamford Bridge next season. If he came we could get shot of that diving prema-donna Drobga !!!

Hiddink's sweet smell of success 3:33pm on 09 Apr 2009 I thought is was time I joined and participated in my first ever blog. So here goes:-

As a Chelsea fan I am obviously delighted by last nights result. It also pointed something out that every Chelsea, Man Utd & Arsenal fan have known for years, and I have a feeling that Liverpool fans, and hopefully Rafa may now understand - participating in the final stages of the Champions League as well as still being in the title race can be dangerous.

It is one thing to win the Champions League when you are 30+ points behind the winners of the premiership and quite another to be going for both titles. There is no doubt that Liverpool's record in Europe is good, but their involvment in the title race this year has cost them.

Gerrard, Torres, Alonso & Mascherano are world-class players, but football is a team game, and you have got Lucas (Good luck in trying to sell him!!!). Liverpool looked a little tired to me last night. Playing every game to win is much different then just turning up for the last 10 Premiership games of the season like normal, while having a go in the Champions League.

Essien ran the game last night, providing more eveidence of what an outstanding world-class player he is. If only he had been fit all season. But Chelsea are also dreaming if they think they can win both. Essien, Cech, Terry & both Cole's apart, their squad is pretty average amongest Europe's elite. Roman has not spent much over the last couple of seasons and it is starting show as players get older. Chelsea need an injection of new blood and I could see a summer of change at the bridge. Bye Bye Drogba!!!

Rafa has made several high-profile comments this season, after which Liverpool have stuttered. Fergie, or Sir Alex for you Man Utd fans, is an expert in getting other managers to take their eye of the ball by engaging them in idel chit-chat, while his team goes and gets another 3 points. Liverpool fans pray that Rafa losses his way to the interview room over the next couple of weeks otherwise you might find yourselves out of both competitions, if his recent form continues. And you are out of the Champions League. Win 3-0, no chance !!!

As far as the old debate of Man or Zonal Marking goes, I think it is fair to say that if you do not get the basics right then you are going to defend poorly whichever system you use. Zonal marking just happens, by it nature, to make the defending team look like they are all ball watching when it goes wrong.

Lastly I would like this opportunity to make a few predictions for the remainder of the season. Premiership winners - Man Utd. Champions League winners - Barcelona. FA Cup winners - Chelsea. No trophies for Liverpool or Arsenal this year. Oh well, better luck next year !!!
