In Australia everyone is able to form their own opinion so you would have to ask each individual person for their opinion on Kadeer. I have personally not read anything to sugguest she is a terrorist, so could you please explain to me why she is a terrorist?

Some people sugguest Mao Zedong or George Washington or Che Guevara were terrorist other would sugguest they were freedom fighters so i guess it depends on whos side you are on.
China goes sweet and sour on Australia 2:40pm on 20 Aug 2009 All this is, is China trying to flex its muscles, or just testing the waters to see how much it can get away with. If it was really serious about Rebiya Kadeer they would have issues with America who is harbouring this ‘Terrorist’, but because they see Australia as a small nation they think they can push us around.
No one in Australia would have even know who Rebiya Kadeer was until China made an issue over this and now most people do and are understanding her issues with China, so I think it has done Rebiya Kadeer a favour by giving her free publicity and created support for her and her cause.

The best Prime Minister we never had was Doc Evatt. He was just unlucky that he came up against the shrewdest politican Australia has ever had in Robert Menzies and the whole Petrov Affair cost him an election as well.
I'm a Treasurer, Get Me Out of Here 1:48pm on 14 May 2009 Compared to the rest of the world Australia is sitting pretty. The debt level is predicted to reach around 13% of GDP and at the moment sits at around 4.5% if you compared this to countries like Japan 193% and predicted to reach 225% next year, the US predicted to reach 99.5%, Italy 118%, UK 76%, Germany 77% and France 79%. If you look at the debt realistically is like borrowing 13000 dollars when you earn 100000 so i think people should go and have a look at there own debt before criticising the government. Also I think the softness of the budget indicates we may be heading for an early election and the predictions are very optimistic as we are a long way from out of trouble yet .
P.S Quoting Piers Ackerman come on Nick i thought you were better than that, he is the most bias journalist in Australia, according to his view of Australian politics, Liberals=good and Labor=bad.

1. Statistics is a collection of numerical data used for analysis, so yes they are statistics.
2. You obviously didn't read the article so I will explain it to you.
In the article they claim that on average 1 in 9 Victorians born in Somalia committed a crime in 2007 based on their own analysis of police figures and the 2006 census.
Now the newspaper used the 'Alleged offenders processed by offence and country of birth 2006/07' statistics, which states clearly that persons are counted on each occasion they are processed, so this means that if one person is processed on 3 occasions than it is counted 3 times.
As Media Watch explains, they should have used the 'Distinct alleged offenders processed by country of birth and age group, 2006/07', which would tell them that 115 people born in Somalia committed offences, so in fact it is 1 in 23 people NOT 1 in 9 people who have committed offences in Victoria between June 2006 to June 2007 as claimed by the newspaper. So in fact of the 2626 people born in Somalia 115 committed 283 offences not 283 people committed 283 offences.
So do you now see how the Sunday Herald Sun manipulated the figures by not using the correct data.

Going soft on asylum? 08:08am on 17 Apr 2009 Sydneykate that doesn't prove anything. So Australian's don't commit crimes like this? I can find numerous stories in the newspaper that state that a person of any other nationality has committed crimes of the same nature. I think you should have a look at the following website to see how the newspapers manipulate statistics to suit a story.

The China syndrome 03:46am on 08 Apr 2009 All this harping on about the Australian Government debt is ridiculous. Especially if you actually went and had a look at the economic data produced by the OECD or IMF you would see that Australia has an insignificant amount of debt at around 8% of total GDP for all governments that includes federal, state and local. If you compared this to Japan it has a whopping 198% and growing with the debt predicted to reach 200% by next year or the ‘great free market economy’, that is the USA is around 65%. We are one of only a few countries that has a debt in single figures, yes this is because of the mining boom and Howard government using the money to reduce Australia’s debt in the good times, but also because of the continuing reforms put in place in Australia by both the Labour and Liberal governments since the 70’s by moving away from a protectionist market to a free market economy. In this time there has been no significant difference between the two major parties in Australia and if you think there is you are kidding yourself.

I think the Rudd government has done a good job so far in providing short term stimulus e.g $900 bonus, to kick start the economy again and long term stimulus e.g infrastructure. The current recession is not of Australia’s making and because of good economic decisions over the last couple of decades we are now in a relatively good position to ride it out.
