Prime Minister's Questions: Schools 5:35pm on 25 Nov 2009 Mandelson,Blair and Brown will do all that is within their collective capability to ensure that Blair is left as untainted as possible following the Chilcott Inquiry. These three and whoever they may be who pull their strings have been duplicitous secretive and politically dubious from the years leading up to the usurpation of the old Labour Party until the present time.

No doubt Cameron's aim today was to discomfort Brown.This is poor behaviour.It smacks of the unsophisticated vote chasing politicking that has gone on in this country far too long. The reason for it is simply the undemocratic style of politics we have to endure here.

The first past the post system of choosing a government causes the immaturity and lack of sophistication from celebrity seeking MPs that sends objective,intelligent and discerning people up the wall.

Not only do we discover today that Chilcott may already have been "got at" as usual in a way that the political establishment reckons is somewhat too clever for the average voter to suss but also we learn that that man Balls may have been paying out tax money to two schools that have very dubious characters, possibly fermenting radicalisation of pupils, involved in running them.

On the basis of innocent until proven guilty, could we please be appraised before the next election of the clear physical evidence that Blair on behalf of New Labour did not lie to Parliament and the British people over Iraq and similarly that Balls has not overseen the funding from taxes intended to support schools desiring to do Britain harm?

Playing at popularity seeking during PMQs is one thing but not over matters so serious. The voters in this country deserve to know exactly what is going on in our own land.

Balls might like to show similar evidence that he doesn't intend teachers to become the nation's snitchers regarding domestic problems that pupils share with them. I spent years working near East Berlin perfectly well aware how the Stasi was being used to help the subjugation of a nation's people.I don't need the same or similar here thank you.
Domestic Violence Lessons? 10:16am on 25 Nov 2009 I write as a retired teacher having spent 35 years trying with my colleagues to teach as effectively as possible a totally overcrowded curriculum which this crazy Government and its agencies reckon can accommodate the solutions to every social difficulty its useless policies historical and current throw up. I negotiated with a young Turkish immigrant recently to teach her two lessons of English per week.She has recently arrived in UK to join a class of 33 children in a local Secondary school and simply cannot cope with the basics of the curriculum let alone the ever increasing content stuffed into it by ministers at a totsal loss to think up any other strategy than to hit already overworked teachers with ever increasing responsibilities to solve the social problems of this country. A country hopelessly broken by the inadequacy of policies hatched up by wide boys like Balls who thinks that a watered down degree in philosophy makes him the panacea for all our social ills. They're full of immature idealism and bereft of any kind of practical common sense.The reason why this country is broken is because people like Brown Mandelson Blair and the like puppets on the end of strings pulled by the banks and other corpoarte industries have a view that the economy is God and that every other responsibility placed upon them as leaders of our country pale into insignificance.We'll deal with the money makers, let the schools deal with everything else.Where does Balls think the time is coming from to teach my newly arrived pupil how to speak the language when her teacher is expected to multi task for 33 chikldren throughout an overcrowded school day.The problem with this country can be summed up in a word its selfishness, nothing more nothing less. it starts in the House of CommonsIt is endemic in The House of Commons,drives most government policies and is passed down to the citizens of this country in bucketfuls.
Is Cumbria a victim of climate change? 6:27pm on 23 Nov 2009 Fascinating to see the photos of Martinstown.Reminds me of my mother's anecdotes about 1938 Cumbria.So,if it is climate change it must be a change we are revisiting rather than one which is new.Apart from the fact that Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite have been overfull to the point of non recognition of their landscapes for weeks now and that both of them are sources of the River Derwent which runs through the heart of Cockermouth along with the River Cocker which itself is no mean beast when in full spate,it seems astonishing to me that no recent anticipatory action was taken to ready both Cockermouth and Workington against the flooding which was inevitable in my opinion once there came a sustained, prolonged bout of rain for which we are famous.
Further, the infrastructure problem here in Cumbria was not caused by the sudden rainfall alone.Our roads and bridges have been for decades neglected by overuse and lack of suitability for the size and volume of traffic using them.The reason the road bridges collapsed in Workington and partly why we lost the heroic PC Barker is because roads and bridges built in Victorian times for pack horses and minimally maintained since have been for thirty years or more hammered by articulated lorries big enough to house a family thundering over the bridges relentlessly in pursuit of profit for greed driven leaders of British and European industries. The economy reigns above all things and it's so important to the lifeblood of the country we haven't even the time to stop and wonder when the day of reckoning will come. Well, it came to Cumbria last Friday and given the intentions of this useless Government to further flood this county with nuclear power stations galore and wind farms wherever they can't fit the power stations, I'll predict that if the road infrastructure including bridges isn't rapidly brought into line with 21st century requirements,this beautiful county is in for more of the same difficulties though next time not necessarily caused by the weather.
Britain lands key EU foreign policy post 4:00pm on 20 Nov 2009 I repeatedly fail to comprehend the anxiety expressed by so many political bloggers reference the undemocratic practices that go on in our so called excellent western democracies. At least in other European countries,when the leading party after an election fails to reach 51% of the votes cast,it is constrained to share power with its choice of one or more of the other participating groups. In UK, the home of the more vociferous activists regarding unfair democratic practices,people who seem not to mind the fact that their democracy constrains them to be governed by a Party that achieves 32% of votes cast so long as no other group has bettered that vote gripe about an appointment of a techno beaurocrat in Brussels.I would advise if you care about democracy to the point where you use it as a stick to strike out at Europe, you ought to look to your own situation first.It is actually refreshing and hopeful that the European leaders have not been sucked into the Mandelson,Blair and Brown attempted stitch up which was aimed at ensuring the transition at home for Brown on the proviso that he lobbied for Blair amongst the European leaders at this later date.Perhaps some bloggers feel this is morally a higher level of democracy in practice.If so think again. Let's have less of the mindless home grown subjectivity and a little more of the objective gravitas which indeed illustrates the difference between Blair and Rumpuy
Miliband's future 'in UK politics' 10:13pm on 10 Nov 2009 I hope Milliband will not allow himself to be sidelined for Europe by the Blair Mandelson Brown axis which has already done so much damage to Britain during the past decade.However,I fear that he will, thus revealing either his immaturity or the selfishness of his career preferences over duty to the people he represents or might represent. Long gone are the days when duty was regarded above personal gain in British politics and it is that selfishness which will eventually be the deciding factor as to whether Milliband goes to Europe or stays in Britain.
So, the Czech was not in the post 2:58pm on 06 Nov 2009 What are we to make of the backbone or otherwise of a Prime Minister of this country who stoops to setting up a personally flawed failed former Home Secretary to ask a question at PMQs Wednesday 4th November designed to score political points against Cameron on the matter of a Lisbon referendum. Brown and Blunkett would be fully aware of course of the compromised situation Cameron had found himself in.How barmy is it that anachronostic parliamentary protocol prevented Cameron from defending himself at that time?If however,Brown thinks that the British people can be taken in by his puerile behaviour and that the majority of us will conveniently forget that under both Blair and himself with Mandelson lurking in the background,New Labour thrice denied the British electorate the formerly promised democratic right to a referendum provided by the likes of Ireland for its electorate(including the unhealthy, undemocratic way that the Irish were stripped of their first choice like a prospective drunk being administered a second breathalyzer because the selfish police officer didn't like the fact that the first demonstrated an answer he didn't wish for)then Brown is mistaken.Besides that, I believe the British people were denied their right to a referendum as a feature of the agreement Mandelson brokered between Blair and Brown on the transition,again undemocratic, of the New Labour Party leadership and hence the unelected elevation of Brown to the PMship and subsequently it was hoped by them the future unelected elevation of Blair to the European Presidency.It has been no coincidence in my book that Blair having gone against the teaching of the Christian community on so many of his policies,including imposing on us the idea that consenting sex between same gender adults was something efficacious for our children to look forward to,including debasing the sanctity of marriage between man and woman,including using abortion as a means of reaching Government targets to decrease the incidences of teenage pregnancy and so on should then seek after retirement from his position as Prime Minister the consolation of membership of the very Roman Catholic Church that most espoused its condemnation of the evil Blair clearly seemed to believe in. Would it be posssible that courting the popularity of the Catholic countries in Europe was seen by Blair as a sensible strategy towards his European ambitions? What is even more disturbing to me is the eagerness with which the same church opened its arms to Blair's duplicity and hypocrisy.IN short,is it possible at all to be an honest man and be successful in politics. The answer in my opinion is yes it probably is possible but we are presently a million miles away it seems to me from finding out for certain.
So, the Czech was not in the post 11:41pm on 03 Nov 2009 Milliband remonstrates with the compromised Cameron's so called broken promise on a referendum.He does so as a senior member of a Government that miserably failed to keep its promise that a similar referendum would be held under its auspices.This is a man who professes to be a decent person with integrity and standards and who might even aspire to the dizzy heights of Foreign Minister for Europe. It really is apalling that politicians today are required to be so duplicitous and dishonest in order to make a successful career of politics.
Question Time....your verdict 11:02am on 23 Oct 2009 Amongst the two loudest voices in opposition to either Nick Griffin or the BBC respectively have been two leading ministers in the present Government,namely Straw and Hain. Both of them work for the leader of this country's Government who they know was not elected to his position.They work with a Business Secretary and a Transport Secretary neither of whom was elected to the House of Commons.Neither of these two people would have either the guts or the inclination to represent their privately held views about New Labour policies but would always accept the censorship of freedom of speech that goes with collective responsibility in cabinet.The Tories put up Baroness Warsi who was seen to be a star in their firmament but who failed to be elected to the House of Commons so was shoed into the Lords and who again would be reluctant to air privately held views if they went against the Party line. So who are these people to lecture the rest of us on ideas of democracy and freedom of speech.Last night's programme was hijacked by the BBC's programme makers in collusion with Dimbleby and the other panelists who spent the hour baiting Griffin. Slipping in a token question about a newspaper article on the sad death of a relatively meaningless singer in a relatively meaningless boy band did not serve to balance the programme which traditionally asks political leaders to air their views about important issues of the day,sometimes privately held but usually Party line.If this country is to make sense of what views Griffin has about law and order;about the likely future impact on this country of the European Union's intentions including the New Labour conspiracy to place Blair as the first President of Europe;about the fact that we are the only developed nation still in recession and actually going further into it albeit more slowly than before;about the rate of teenage pregnancy;binge drinking; drug taking;greed driven profit obsessed capitalist corporates destroying town and city centres as well as obliterating landscapes with relatively useless wind turbines;rationally about the effects of overpopulation rather than irrationally about the morality of immigration then he needs to be tasked to give views on these matters over an hour's debate not have the time wasted giving vent to Jack Straw's understandable distate for a Party that bares its loathsome soul to public scrutiny rather than attempting to disguise it in the garments of respectability as New Labour has always done. Like Las Vegas, New Labour is all fur coat and no knickers.The Tories I suspect will be the same. What we need in this country is decency and respectability. That demands a wholesale reconstruction of the political system not the BBC exploitation of a rather silly,immature unintelligent leader of a morally bankrupt minor Party.

PM: 'We'll cut with Germany, France and the US' 9:07pm on 15 Sep 2009 What this country has never learned is that popular policies meant to win votes in a 2 or 3 party political system do not usually enhance quality of life through social improvement. I lived and worked in both Germany and Holland for over 30 years total.In both countries, workers were paid significantly higher wages,they paid significantly higher taxes and were rewarded with significantly better social services and amenities. In Britain, greed driven and profit obsessed as it is and run by salivating corporates, wages are kept as low as possible for as much input as possible. Therefore, less taxes are available; therefore less social services and amenities are possible.Government policies are designed to do little other than capture the poular vote.The one thing a Brit would entirely balk at is paying higher taxes even if it could be proved it would lead to an enhanced quality of life.It's lack of education. In fact, that is the kernel of the problems facing Britain. Government policies have resulted in a highly paper qualified population of largely unintelligent people when it comes to understanding taxes and what benefit they can be to all of us.Workers need to demand much higher wages from these unbelievably greedy corporates and be prepared to pay higher taxes as a result so that better services and amenities can be made available.
