Crashing the F1 party 10:40pm on 24 Oct 2009 I think that the best aspect of the coverage on the BBC this season has been to bring us viewers right into the heart of the action and to deliver access to all of the key players. Good to see the human side of so many F1 people not just last weekend in Brazil, but throughout the entire season. Well done.

Anyway we all move on and I notice what seemed to be a more ordnary asssignment for you at Pride Park this evening. Was Flavio Briatorie there? That would be an exclusive for you! Is it Wembley tomorrow for the NFL International? I am really envious that you get to all of these events and then on to Abu Dhabi next weekend. Keep up the good work Jake. Well done on your maiden F1 season.
Pick your classic F1 season finale 1:06pm on 22 Oct 2009 I would be glad to see any of the races that you have selected, but my first choice goes to the 1980 Watkins Glen race. This is simply because I have never seen any F1 footage from the Glen and this oppurtunity is too good to miss. Second choice from me is Estoril 1984. Another great circuit sadly no longer on the calender. Third choice is Suzuka 88.

May I take this oppurtunity to say thankyou to Andrew Benson for providing this classic GP discussion forum and for the bringing us the archive footage throughout this season. I would like to add my voice to those people calling for this feature to be continued throughout the off season. I dont think I can hold out until Melbourne in March.
Your classic Brazilian Grand Prix 11:19am on 14 Oct 2009 Hi Andrew. Very pleased again with the coverage. Thankyou for opening this blog and forum for the discussion of classic races. As you said - Criticism all season long for including ITV era races, and now criticism for not enough ITV era races! Either way, you prompted a good discussion and have shown five good grand prix.

What a magnificent ciruit that is at Rio and at Interlagos. I hope that next season you may be able to find some footage of a Grand Prix from the old Interlagos layout.

Looking forward to the classic title deciders for Abu Dhabi.
Pick your classic Brazilian Grand Prix 1:32pm on 08 Oct 2009 Difficult choice as they are all good races, and as many have stated already there are a few notable absentees.

1993 get's my vote as it was an emotional finish with thousnads of celebrating Brazilians cheering Ayrton Senna across the line. Another occasion when the cheering of the crowd drowns out the F1 engines. Did the two Ligiers take each other out of this race?

1989 is my second choice.
No shortage of drama in Japan 9:15pm on 05 Oct 2009 Hi Jake. I'm not getting into the pants discussion as I want this reply to be brief.

Really enjoyed Rubens Barrichello's circuit walk. I remember a similar feature at Barcelona being just as informative and well produced. Can you get him to do all of the circuit guides?

It seems travel fatigue is setting in with some members of the BBC team. In Saturday's qualifying session Anthony Davidson said "coming out of the hairpin now and heading towards pouhon corner", only for David Croft to correct him with " that will make a very long lap as Pouhon corner is in Belgium!" Not to be outdone, Eddie Jordan in the pre race show saying how things would be different when we get to Japan, and DC pointing out "I think you mean Brazil as we are in Japan now Eddie!"

Brilliant coverage again and I would like to add to JessicaAukland's comments in post #27, that Anthony Davidson will be missed from the commentary box next season. He has built up a good rapport with David Croft and the camaraderie between the two makes a great accompanyment to the race.

Finaly, I'm glad that the chamionships are both still to be decided. I still think it will Brawn and Jenson who will be finish as champions.
Your classic Japanese Grand Prix 2:02pm on 01 Oct 2009 Great race selection again. Interesting to read the Damon Hill interview. He was certainly in the correct mindset for that race. I remember during the red flag period Damon remained in his car whilst many of the other drivers got involved in the restart debate. During that time he looked fully focused and at times appeared to be meditating.
Good commentary from Jonathon Palmer. His analysis of the aggregate timings was invaluable to the excitement over the last 10 laps. It was a good swift decision from the Williams team during Hill's last pitstop when the right rear wheel failed to come off the car. Just leave it on!

Whilst the 1994 race was probably the best of the bunch my vote went to 1989 as this was the race that really fired my enthusiasm for this sport. I remember many people suggesting that Prost could win the title by crashing into Senna but I couldn't beleive it when it actually happened. "Oh my goodness, this is fantastic!"

Andrew - I would also include Laguna Seca as one of the best circuits in the world, but I hope that the F1 circus never goes there as they would sanitise the place.

Post #54 - I agree with your sentiments regarding "historic tracks" over modern facilities.

Post #36 - As for the idea of funny grand Prix momments what about Johnny Herbert leaving the pitlane in Barcelona in 1995 with the rear jack still attached to the car.

I thought that was a long afternoon! Good coverage again, however I thought that a lot of time (maybe too much) was spent on the spygate affair, with extensive reports on Saturday and Sunday, and several references by you after quailfiying and the race. I realise that it is one of most amazing stories to ever come out of a F1 season, but I hope that we can now move on.

I dont know how you cope with management of your body clock. At least you have a week to adapt to local time in readyness for Suzuka. You are very lucky to have time to see Singapore. I'm very jealous. I only managed to see the airport when I passed through a few years ago. The airport is superb and I can only imagine that the city is even better!

Looking forward to Suzuka. That will be a good track for your ciruit run! I hope in the build up to the race you can show some of the great overtaking manouvers, crashes and title deciding moments of previous years. Maybe another title will be decided this year. Roll on Sunday.
Your classic grand prix 07:53am on 24 Sep 2009 What fantastic viewing that made!

Although I have seen it several times before, the Villenuve/Arnoux battle is legendary. Great to see action form the old Osterreichring. What a fantastic circuit. I don't recall ever seeing Dallas 1984 before and so it was good to see that too.

I also enjoyed the short technical report from Jonathon Palmer before the Mexico race. I seem to remember he did several features like this in Grand Prix build up programmes and they were always very informative pieces. Whilst he may not rank highly amongst other colour commentators such as James Hunt or Martin Brundle, he always provided good car technical insight and driver conditioning analysis.

As for Japan, that's another fine selection of races. My first choice is 1989. Second choice is 1976. Third choice is 1994. I think 1994 is a great race, however I have the full live coverage on tape at home.
Pick your classic grand prix 8:52pm on 17 Sep 2009 In earlier disucssions I suggeseted Mexico 1990 and that is where my vote is going. I will be happy whichever race wins though as they are all 1st class.

As for alternative suggestions, I would enjoy seeing some old footage from Estoril. Perhaps Senna's 1st win in 1985 or maybe the 1989 race.

Button back on song in title chase 1:23pm on 14 Sep 2009 On an alternative note; If Bernie Ecclestones medal system had been put into place this season, then Jenson Button would be 1 podium place away from winning the world title, and the battle would be between just three drivers (Button, Barrichello and Vetel). For the sake of keeping the title race open then I am glad we have stuck to the points system.
