• Does Europe need hedge funds? 10:49am on 09 Jul 2009 I hope you can do something on Qauntitative easing later today. I find it very troubling and there is a lack of attention in the national press about what a huge risk is being taken with our long-term economic well-being.
  The hedge fund regulation is a diversion, odd how hedge funds have been used to divert attention right through the crisis, e.g. with short-selling, oil manipulation etc. All a chimera.
• Newsnight's Politics Pen 2:06pm on 08 Jul 2009 As many have pointed out, the arrogance of the answer is almost worst than the 'crime.'
  
  How dare we mere shareholders/taxpayers question whether the BBC is right to choose certain panelists. What matter that at least one is a close personal friend of the PM; the lack of balance is that I don't see any close personal friends of Mr Cameron or Mr Clegg in there.
  
  That the debates then ignore any radical solutions in favour of a cosy status quo and 'aren't decisions hard to make?' is just pathetic.
  
  Newsnight was the last show I watched on the BBC. No more from now on, now justify to me why i should pay your tax when your provide no service?
• Bank of England wins victory - but for what? 10:34am on 06 Jul 2009 All well and good, but it seems to me that this is a mere smoke-screen. The real issues need to be dealt with by policy today, not high flauntin' thoughts about the world of 20 years time which may never come about.
• When we need politicians 4:41pm on 03 Jul 2009 I think the author could of at least tried to be a bit less biased himself. I note he says the two most wanted cuts are those that affect the poor.
  
  As a BBC public servant himself this unlikely to be him. Perhaps he does not quite grasp that hhuge public debts make us all poor by forcing taxes up in the long-term and the value of the stock market (our pensions, but not BBC ones no doubt) down.
  
  This sadly is a very typical BBC piece of commentary.
• Why bankers aren't worth it 11:50am on 03 Jul 2009 Can't diagree with this, clearly there should be some limits on gambling with other peoples money! Not rockets science, but still.
  
  Given Robert broke the Northern Wreck story I am surprised he has not followed up [Unsuitable/Broken URL removed by Moderator]
• Mandelson and markets 5:35pm on 01 Jul 2009 Exactly - politics trumps economics. This is always the case until economics comes and blows away a government, as the credit crunch has done to Labour.
  
  I bet the tories are gutted as they were looking forward to labour doing the hard lifting.
  
  No doubt Mandy has his speech written to berate teh Tories for doing this when they come to power and have to raise every last penny they can to pay gordon brown's debts.
• I could operate trains 10:00am on 01 Jul 2009 As much as national express are fools for bidding too much, a greedy government should try and think more long-term.
  
  As Robert says, the new bids are going to be lower so the taxpayer will lose money on this again. Allowing only sustainable bids would be better for all sides. More due diligence needed.
• How much power for Bank of England? 10:20am on 25 Jun 2009 I am amazed Robert is focusing on this part of Mervyn's comments yesterday, surely this bit, where he points to a potential fiscal crisis is of far more import?
• Hester's Royal remuneration 09:56am on 22 Jun 2009 Hester is ok, a good manager who will try to see the bank right. Whether that is possible is another thing. Hampton as chairman conerns me more, he is seen as a city grandess, but does not have a great track record.
• Why King changed his mind 10:44am on 18 Jun 2009 It is open warfare now between the Govenor and the Chancellor. Despite the way Robert puts it, this was a very aggressive speech. In it mervyn King effectively agreed with Tory policies over Labour. In effect he said vote Tory at the next election.
