The remarkable story of Brawn GP 5:36pm on 19 Oct 2009 Great article on the Brawn team, and some of the engineering background.

I hope with the title now wrapped up, that the Beeb can give us a bit more on this place in Brackley that Ross was giving praise to. We've seen pictures from the Macca superbase in Woking, so it's about time we saw behind the scenes at BGP. Just what does it take to make a championship-winning car.

Only 3 chassis though... It shows what you get by having drivers that don't keep crashing out!

I just wish you'd contrasted the "Brawn's acceptance of the penalty after split-second decisions" against the non-penalty for Rosberg during the race. If Nico gained 6 seconds on hist competitors, he surely had a lot longer to be making his judgement.

As you said at the end - you have to live by the rules. In my opinion, Nico didn't live by the rule, and the excuse was lame. And since when did stewards listen to excuses anyway?
No shortage of drama in Japan 7:59pm on 05 Oct 2009 Brawn published a photo from behind Jake during the forum, showing the lights & crew in action. There's no way that Jenson missed that lot hiding in the corner ;-)

Is it right for the Stewards to strike a positive note for safety by issuing 5 penalties for ignoring the yellow-flag during quali, and yet ignore a seemingly blatant issue during the race?

Around 9-10 laps to go, BBC were interviewing Ross Brawn. At that time, he reported that Barrichello's brakes had a problem (which is why he was dropping back from Button) and that they thought Vettel had brake problems too - so were getting Button to push up to Vettel and see what happened. Lap times for laps 53-56 show Button much faster than Barrichello - 1:48 vs 1:50.

Then Button's brakes went, and he ended up getting the "take it easy" signal from Brawn... and he backed off a lot. During lap 57, button had dropped back to Barrichello's time of 1:50.

Then Barrichello got told about Buttons problem, and immediately asked "can I catch him", and was told no. For lap 58 and 59, Barrichello kept times of 1:50, while Button dropped to 1:52.

From a team perspective, and for the WCC, the best answer was for both to coast, and protect their points.

From Buttons perspective, the answer was the same.

But the timing charts show that Barrichello decided to go after Button at that point. For the last 2 laps, Barrichello did 1:49, while Button did 1:53 and then 1:51 (obviously responding to the threat).

Barrichello obviously thought it was worth a do-or-die move. There was no point in pushing his car that much if he wasn't also willing to try to overtake Button too - knowing the possible risk of doing a Webber at minimum, or taking both cars out at worst.

I wonder what Ross *really* thought about that.
F1 row nears endgame 01:33am on 12 Jul 2009 Well, well, well.

I remember the reports on this blog, back when The Max+Bernie show introduced both the "Winner takes all" and the "Budget cap" proposals to, what appeared to be, a fait-accomplis.

The real answer was of course to follow the money - and FOTA and CVC are proving that it is indeed the money that is talking.

Andrew - remember how that earlier blog finished? Here is the quote:

I think we have an answer to the last question, but the other two paragraphs are pretty accurate. OK, I doubt you would describe Max as winning, but the cost-cutting *is* going to be there.
A call for debate 9:41pm on 09 Jun 2009 This is the leader of a party, and government, who was never elected into his current office, and has just gone through a round of elections which put them (depending on the poll) either worse than 1918, or behind UKIP.

He might not even manage to be in charge of his party at the next election either.

And he thinks he had the moral authority to totally change the democratic nature of the UK, in terms of both how votes are counted, and what chambers are to be elected?

Unbelievable.

And no, I don't think the House of Lords should be fully elected. I think it needs to be held accountable - but not to the same whims that drive the elected politicians around election time. We need a set of politicians whose vote can't be bought.
It's all up in the air 00:42am on 16 Apr 2009 Jake - Obviously you managed to sleep on this plane - no mid-flight blogging this time?

I'd love you guys to cover one aspect of the diffuser situation - that 2 teams (Renault certainly, was Red Bull the other?) had their diffuser ideas rejected months ago.

Does this mean that FIA rejected valid designs? Or that those 2 teams don't quite realise what it is about Brawn, Toyota and Williams that makes theirs legal? Like Ross Brawn said - the other 7 teams were just fishing, because they don't know what the details are.

So finally, was the appeal just a ruse by the 7, so that the 3 double-decker teams would be forced to openly publish the design data?

My Australian Grand Prix moments 5:47pm on 31 Mar 2009 After listening to the commentaries of practice, qualifying, and the race, it was nice to have Murray's review in more measured tones. A rather good review of the race there, though I don't recall much mention of the Toyota's or Renault - Trulli probably deserved a mention!

5 minutes well spent there. Welcome back Murray!
Sneak preview of our new F1 TV title sequence 01:30am on 28 Mar 2009 I like the sound of the FX, except the lightning that interferes with the opening bars of The Chain - and it is those opening bars that are so iconic. The rumble leading-in is enough, without the crash. Rumble-fade-twang would be much better.

The faceless bloke is OK, but it really does start out like Jenson - especially as ITV used a similar back-lit image for his part of their intro. It was my first thought seeing that - a copy...

The colour-switching of the helmet is good - although switching between the real helmet colours of the real drivers would have been better there.

We're left to guess what happens to the video while the music/FX continue (and I didn't see the news earlier). I hope it becomes live action, rather than CGI, but maybe this will change as the season progresses and the bank of interesting shots increases.

Appetite whetted. It'll do, so far, said t' Yorkshireman.
