Man Utd are worthy champions 11:41am on 17 May 2009 Good article Phil. As ever in any hat-trick of title wins, be it Liverpool or Man Utd, the first and the second tend to be the ones with freshness and excitement. The third is often ground out - as is the case this time around. For me, the defence won this title for us, and save for the 'wobble' against Liverpool and Fulham, it would have defined Man U as 'impregnable'.

However, Ferguson's and our greatness can only be defined in Rome. As Neil Diamond sang, "Disappointed haunted all my dreams.....and then I saw her face...". I truly hope that our team do see the face of success, their own talent and belief.

It is Ferguson's fear. To have won everthing and yet be doubted or have some doubt about his greatness. That is in part what spurs him on.

His faith in youth, talent and fearless skill has been the saviour of British football for over 25 years. Pay homage, and pay it again, and again, and again. You may never see it again.
Man Utd give Wenger hope 1:11pm on 30 Apr 2009 Phil - "and yet a lack of killer instinct..." isn't quite the perspective you should put on it if you go by the number of attempts that were on target. It was Almunia that kept Arsenal in the tie, which you do recognise later on.
The tie is all about who scores the next goal, and its timing. No point playing it out here. Arsenal are definately still in it, sadly for me and all United fans but this is what football is about and I would prefer enjoying both the tension and sweetness of victory next week than being blase about it.
Barcelona - Man Utd should produce the most attractive final, and I know that Wenger would disagree. I just hope it is that and United win in 90 minutes.
Liverpool make Ferguson suffer 4:40pm on 15 Mar 2009 Did I hear the first cuckoo of Liverpool's spring? Enjoy the sound. Or is it the sound of keyboard chatter as football pundits have something new to talk about? The Thesaurus must have long run out of superlatives about United's play. Better to describe a fallen idol eh?

The fact is that in 2009, United have so far played 19 games to 14 by Liverpool. Despite the stronger squad, it was time for a reality check and boy did we get one. In football, you are only as good as your last game, and we were poor. However, smack United and you know what to expect.

United have always maintained their values in football - free flowing, fast attacking, risk football. That is why we are a love/hate team. Liverpool beating Real Madrid was the first time in 25 years that I saw them play with anywhere near the level of passion and flow of a United team. How many Liverpool fans saw a taste of what it has been like at United for years? Benitez will let you down, and you know it, or fear it. Only Wenger has been true to his faith. Chelsea will pimp their ride for years to come.

See you all in May. Rafa - see you at Madrid in September. Jose - See you at Anfield in October. Fergie - See you lifting trophies until retirement and beyond.
