Progress of sorts but England remain in flux 3:54pm on 24 Nov 2009 1. Make Moody captain. Borthwick is beyond a joke and doesn't merit his place anyway.
2. Stop this aimless kicking game (note there are 2 types of kicking; the aimless punt down the field that England specialize in and the 'up and under' which is pressured by follow up attackers).
3. Hope like hell that some of the hospital cases recover in time for Wales game
4. More widely let's hope the IRB dream up rules to make the game interesting again; such as (1) penalize crooked scrum feeds (2) when the ball is sitting at the back of a ruck or maul in full view of everyone it is OUT and fair game for anyone to grab (3) allow a rolling maul to stop and restart as often as needed - to drag in defenders and make space (4) allow rucking so the berks that lie over the ball learn its not a good idea (5) teach Refs what a front row is and how the laws operate in a front row. In summary do anything to make the game more different to Rugby League because over the last 10 years the laws have made it more and more like League.
Your thoughts on this year's Autumnwatch 09:53am on 22 Nov 2009 Spreading it over 8 weeks was a massive improvement on consective nights - nothing better illustrates that than the contrast between week 1 (warmth) and week 8 (cold) and, of course, that is precisely what autumn is.
Suggest you stay with the current team. Sorry Bill (Oddie) but the current team work far better together.

That was horrid, Henry 3:29pm on 19 Nov 2009 Don't blame the player (many players cheat every week) and don't blame the ref (that's what humans do, they make mistakes).
DO BLAME THE COMPLETE IDIOTS THAT RUN SOCCER. Other sports use technology and soccer is plain stupid not too. Whether its for offsides, handballs or penalty claims it will considerably increase the chance of the right decision being made. It can also be used to severely punish the cretans that dive or abuse referees.
When oh when will soccer enter the 21st century ?
Purple England left with red faces 9:43pm on 15 Nov 2009 Argentina kicked the ball and had at least 2 guys charging after every kick. England just booted it aimlessly, time and again, and had no one following up. Can't really see Carter employing the same pointless and totally brain dead tactics next week.
You really have to admire the logic - We've just won the ball so let's aimless boot pocession away.
Poor old Johnno - losing a complete team through injury and then finds the next best 15 don't bother to take their brain onto the pitch.
It really does make a statement about just how utterly dreadful Borthwick is as a captain that he couldn't sort the mess out on the pitch.
Thank you, Prime Minister 08:43am on 11 Nov 2009 There are lies, damn lies and statistics but perhaps occasionally they tell a story.
If you add up the international career T20 batting average for each England players in the 2nd T20 against the WI you get 129. If you do the same with the team that played in the T20 W-Cup Semi & Final you get 205. No surprise then that we struggled with the batting somewhat.
In the 3 ODIs against the WI we yielded 56 Wides and 7 No Balls. In the 4 completed ODIs against Australia in the summer we yielded 24 Wides and 2 No Balls.
In the T20 W-Cup Semi & Final, the T20 against Aus and the 4 completed ODIs against Aus we suffered 4 run outs. In the 5 games against the WI we suffered 10 run outs.
Still, with 2 World Cup victories this year I think the team can be forgiven for losing a bit of discipline, perhaps even focus, on this tour. It’s the next one to the WIs that really matters.
Thank you, Prime Minister 1:54pm on 10 Nov 2009 18 months ago I watched England completely destroy the West Indies at Loughborough and the gap between the teams was huge. This year, save for the 1st 6 overs against Australia in the T20 World Cup (when Dottin annihilated the Aussie attack), there was little evidence of significant advancement. The middle lower order was, well, fragile, and the bowling was very average. They even lost the recent ODI series to South Africa. Against this backdrop I think most media organizations felt the trip to the WI was going to be so one sided even without the Taylors that it would be no more than a training trip for the T20 in the WI in 2010 – and to be honest so did I. Oops.
I could have accepted the loss of the first ODI as a fluke but not the 3rd and the 1st T20. The WI have clearly made massive strides forward and must be about the join England, India, Australia and NZ as serious contenders for honours (bad news for England on this tour but great news for women’s cricket). The 2010 T20 World Cup group (Eng, Aus, WI, SA) is now looking like the group of death.
Without the Taylors and with Greenway injured for 2 of the games so far, England’s batting has under performed. Even batters with a track record of success such as Atkins (60 runs from 4 innings) and Morgan (17 runs from 4 innings) haven’t fired. In a way getting beaten by the WI might be a blessing in disguise – rather have a reality check now than in the 2010 T20 World Cup and now’s the time to give new players some experience.
Cycling's problematic pursuit of equality 5:25pm on 01 Nov 2009 In the Olympics there are 2 types of sport - pure sport that requires no matter of opinion judgement and the rest. If the IOC want to resolve cost issues then scrap any sports that depend on judges and promote those that don't !
Are Saracens losing their soul? 12:43pm on 03 Sep 2009 All clubs lost their soul when they turned professional - because overnight the spirit of the clubs changed. In fact, of course, they were no longer clubs at all, they were and are businesses.
As a business you employee people to do a job and grow your business and, like most businesses in this country, Saracens are free to employee people from non-UK sources.

Back actually palmed the ball into the scrum (hence difficulty in ref spotting it). It was a yellow card offence (no different to any of the other yellow card offences). He would have looked a complete prat if it was spotted and he was yellow carded.
Paradoxicly rugby came out of it okay because of the marvellous and sporting way in which Munster took the defeat. No ranting about refs or complaints. Whats more they came back to the same place twice and won it twice over the next 6 years. Well done to Munster and their marvellous set of fans.

Quins (and they won't be the only club to have done this) exploited the lax regulations. Good grief its not rocket science for the IRB or RFU or ERC to have the necessary check and balances in place to have prevented this sort of abuse. Where is the criticism of the IRB or RFU or ERC.
For years now we have had clubs abusing the uncontested scrums situation (even in Heineken Cup matches) yet no action from the IRB or RFU or ERC.
The whole area of substitution in rugby is a shambles and its long past the time the 'powers that be' got a grip of it.
It truly amazes me that Deano can get banned to 2 years or whatever and yet gouging, yes blantant gouging, is punished by a number of weeks. Just who the hell is running rugby ? There was no danger of Deano's activities blinding someone was there ?
