• Elton John's in the news... what's your take? 12:19pm on 23 Sep 2009 I'm a little narked that Elton is amongst the money grabbing musicians who want to enforce bans on peoples broadband connections if they are suspected of file sharing. Blimey he's made money three or four times over - record, tapes, cds and now online mp3 sales.
• What could/would/should central banks have done? 12:10pm on 23 Sep 2009 If you compare sterling against a basket of other major currencies, Brits have had their wages slashed by over 20% during the last 18 months. Most companies would be able to return to "growth" if their staff had a 20% pay cut enforced upon them.

  I love the irony here - mentioning summer on the same day that the Met Office "revised" their forecast of a barbecue summer - global warming? local drenching more like.

  Hiring a car is actually a very good idea - it makes sense both economically and is considerate to the environment. By having to spend money each day people will be more thoughtful as to if they really can justify the expense of a car each day and are more likely to use public transport alternatives
• Green campaigns can hurt the planet, says Giddens 09:21am on 27 May 2009 It is a fair point to avoid naming and shaming around climate change as this serves little benefit to addressing the issues here and now
  
  Climate change hurts poor people first and worst. It is already impacting the work Oxfam do today. If we are to end poverty and suffering for all people, we must fight the impacts of climate change.
  
  The key objective is to improve lives and livelihoods in this area. Oxfam also want to continue to deliver a very strong adaptation message/story without falling into use of jargon. To overcome this challenge, we will be mindful of keeping the message relevant as well as by maintaining the link to climate change, such as supporting farmers by equipping them with special seeds, know-how and tools.
