quite right the bbc should push the agw 'message' (or if you define propaganda as informing the public about scientific discoveries - then propaganda). this is the most important global issue we face today.

also quite right that they should ignore the usual hot air from the denialosphere. a miniscule group mostly with political or economic interests. it's only here that these emails are perceieved as significant.

i look forward to significant progress at copenhagen.

scudlewis, mango for once makes a valid comment. not about measurements vs computers but about who you believe.

check out the papers in the literature, check out the scientists, check out the major sceptics (singer, mcintyre etc) but take comment board comments with a huge pinch of salt :o)

spot on (don't worry too much about mango, he's nothing if not consistent).

good to see the usa and china moving ahead on co2 reductions. last week i predicted neither would make a move, how wrong i was. hopefully this is the start of a major push to reduce co2 emissions to virtually zero (eminently achievable) and prevent dangerous anthropogenic climate change. something we could all be proud of.

one of those lighbulb moments for me. if there is something important to be done (and i can't see anything more important than what we're talking about here) people do like to get busy. telling them not to do something or even worse, pay for not doing something, just doesn't work.

maybe that's a big part of the negativety around the subject.

thanks for that (refreshing to see something on-topic in the midst of this denial-a-thon). don;t think the usa or china will come up with anything drastic in the near future.......wonder what the bookies are saying!

will be interesting to see next year's temps. it's an el nino year (this year wasn't ...ish....and was 5th warmist on record) so is predicted to be very warm, close to 1998. i feel it could turn the whole debate one way or the other.

getting all too excited here mate. you see conspiracy where there is none, unless by conspiracy you mean responsible scientists trying to prevent their science being hijacked by political and economic interests which you seem to represent.

and i don't understand why you are so keen to get you cheer leaders into peer review anyway. the few peer reviewed papers (in SR or E&E) that actually support your denialeology have shown them to be bankrupt of any real ideas (or facts for that matter).

it seems the rs, metoffice and nerc (hardly part of your silly conspiracy theories) have made their pronouncement so i'm still pretty depressed about our contribution to global warming.

was nice to see sleepy fred singer on newsnight last night though and please do carry on with your denial-a-thon.

"This is the biggest scandal this century." - are you sure? maybe in the small paranoid world you guys inhabit. what have you got from 13 years of emails, a few little snippets. in fact i'm very disappointed that there is no evidence the massive conspiracy that is the only possibility that you guys are right (i want you guys to be right......but sadly you're not). copenhagen will grind on, very slowly (thanks to the deliberate misinformation campaign) and we'll end up with over 4 degrees of warming. thank you very much.

the fact you think the whole of climate science is based on models show how little you understand. so have your crow, you've worked hard for it. but the science goes on and the politics will follow.....painfully slowly.
Copenhagen Countdown: 17 days 1:59pm on 23 Nov 2009 As a warmist I think it is brilliant news this hack has occurred. Now the whole question of a conspiracy can be put to bed once and for all. I don;t know which way it will go. I'm desperately hoping it is a conspiracy because then I can forget about switching off lights, buy myself a bigger car....although the potential price of petrol's worrying, whack up the thermostat on the heating etc etc.

As usual, I'll take no notice of the usual suspects and look forward to those in the scientific community that have no axe to grind here and a lot to lose (e.g. national academies) pronouncing.

Wrt the comments in the code, from 30 years of software development experience I wouldn't take too much notice.

Interesting article from Richard.

But I'm sure all the active climate scientists that make up the GCP are just haggling for some extra grants or maybe deliberately distorting some figures or maybe they've been overtaken by a severe case of groupthink and are totally out of touch with reality.

Or more likely, these are hard working extremely able, active climate scientists reporting what is actually happening (and will probably happen) in the world if/when Copenhagen fails.
