I have only just found your blog and look forward to following it.

Interesting reading you have collected old bricks from your neighbours outhouse. we did something similar 20+ years ago and made a lovely path snaking down the garden.

Now many years later the bricks are deteriorating because in fact they were house bricks and so softer and not designed to be used for paths we should have used engineering bricks or pavers.

Still they have done for a few years and started off looking nice no doubt you will have moved on to pastures new before they become a problem.

I will always associate Berryfields with Monty Don and his particular style of presenting and gardening.

New adventures are always fun and I do look forward to this one.

However as someone who has hobby gardened for 30+ years the one thing I always feel is lacking is advice on how to mange an existing garden with the thugs and stragglers to make decisions over.

I do not have an endless purse or energy, to clear out a whole area of garden and replant is something which to me is the easy way out. It's the long term gardening projects that are the real challenge, so I hope this is something you will address in your new endevours.

After 6 years of battling this illness I have overcome severe debilitating and painful arthritis and muscle weakness and can again enjoy my gardening.
The joys of bare soil 10:17pm on 03 Mar 2009 Yes it is great to start the gardening year and the last few days of milder weather has been lovely to get out and catch up.
Sadly I have been unable to garden for some years I have been ill with Lyme disease for 6 years. After 2 years antibiotics I am much recovered and can for the first time in 3 1/2 years walk upstairs which means this is going to be a wonderful year for me in the garden.
Please can Gardener's World do something to raise awareness of this devastating illness. See Charity website for details

I know Horticulturalists and Forestry workers are warned of the dangers but not we hobby gardeners. Had I known then a few weeks antibiotics could have prevented 6 years of debilitating and painfull arthritis and muscle weakness.

The charity is in touch with many people in all parts of UK sufferring with this illness all mis diagnosed with many other things ME/CFS, PolyMyalgia Rheumatica, Fibromyalgia in my case but others can end up with stroke, heart block, neurological problems, psychiatric probems the list is endless. Some people's immune systems seem to cope and they produce antibodies to fight it off without any signs of illness but other people like other illnesses can suffer badly.

Please do something to raise awareness and find out what is happening by reading the above website.

This year I will be enjoying gardening more than anyone else can possibly do.
