An interview with President Obama 02:03am on 02 Jun 2009 Indeed, the BBC is auspiciously positioned overseas (global reach and all) to have been chosen for a White House interview on the eve of an important diplomatic tour, but surely the growing profile of the BBC as a major news organization here in America also influenced their decision.

Well done, Mr. Webb. BBC coverage of the US has vastly improved during your tenure in Washington.
Obama's extravagant claims 11:02pm on 26 Feb 2009 If Bush had said the line about the invention of the automobile, I would have shrugged it off as his usual bumbling incuriosity. But hearing it from Obama, an academic and legal scholar with a genuine affinity for facts and details, it really did make me cringe.

Seemingly minor careless inaccuracies, especially in such an important prepared speech, could actually harm his credibility over time, by mode of "death by a thousand papercuts."
And in this case, it diminishes the real American contribution to the automobile, which was far more consequential that the work of the initial tinkerers: namely, the commercially successful mass-produced auto and the assembly line.
