As to your suggestion about posting contrary opinions, I would, but whether or not Australia ditches the queen is quite possibly the subject in the world I have the least interest in.

Obama stardust for teflon Rudd? 10:22am on 07 Aug 2009 It seems to me that Rudd hasn't really done anything since he became prime minster, so while he hasn't set the world on fire, he hasn't really annoyed anyone either. Probably the best thing for a politician.

Regarding America, i'd be more surprised if Obama and Rudd didn't have a close relationship. Australia has always been a major US ally, and an important player in Asia. New Zealand too, but to a lesser extent.

Meaasuring the threat 2:58pm on 05 Aug 2009 Marcus, I kind of agree with you. We tend to be quite blase about stuff like this, and I think it does have a lot to do with the IRA bombings. I remember bombs always going off when I was younger, to the point where it becomes a part of life. I suppose Australia's geographical isolation has spared it a bit from the troubles that have plagued Europe, the middle east and Asia over the years.
Meaasuring the threat 11:16am on 05 Aug 2009 There's a threat of terrorism everywhere, so I don't know why Australians, or anyone else, would be surprised about a possible terror attack. Another one will happen soon, somewhere. Nothing much you can do about it.
The end of Australian books? 3:00pm on 27 Jul 2009 Didn't know that morethanbooks. I live in the UK, and i've never noticed this, but it doesn't surprise me it happens in the north American market.
The end of Australian books? 09:46am on 27 Jul 2009 I've never heard of Australian books being changed to suit an international audience. It hasn't happened with the Australian books I have read (mainly by Tim Winton). Does that really happen?
