A political career shelved 5:20pm on 17 Jun 2009 Next up Connarty, who seems to think the following cut and paste reply to all his constituents, no matter their query on the subject, is appropriate:
'I do not know what you think you know apart from what you read in the press, which I would have thought everyone knows will was not always too accurate.
Despite the anger and indignation which your E mail has displayed you will understand that you have gone beyond the bounds of acceptable legal behaviour in making your allegations, particularly as you have done so in the name of your company, of which I unfortunately I have never heard.
I ask that you withdraw your outrageous and untrue statements by return.
To assist you in your consideration, I will relate the same tale I told to the journalist who claims his sub editors distorted his
final submitted text. When asking me whether I thought the
electronic goods bought by my flat - sharing colleague which I had claimed through my living in London allowance were extravagant, I avoided making a judgement of others by relaying the story told to me by Angus Robertson MP who was recently being interviewed and asked to explain why he had purchased a mechanical corkscrew at £20. The interviewer produced a corkscrew which he claimed to have bought for a few pounds in a multiple store. Angus retorted that Some people would not be satisfied unless MPs bought everything from the 99p store. The rest is journalistic history and journalistic licence to ensnare the gullible and thrill the easily excited.
The sum total of what you call toys that I have bought and claimed from my allowances since 2004, through to 2009 consists of:-
One 17 flat screen TV with freeview box (bought Feb 2006)
One Pure DAB Evoke 3 radio (bought 2007)
My Pioneer mini stereo system and Mission speakers are at least 10 years old.
I am too busy working on the many issues that face my constituents, Scottish and UK businesses and society to have much time for toys.
These issues include the campaign for musical auditory copyright extension at EU level, which I would have thought a super multi logoed individual like you would have known about. Fran Nervkla of PPL can fill you in.

Calman speaks 2:00pm on 15 Jun 2009 It is galling from all perspectives that the full effect of oil revenue has been dismissed by this exercise and only received a cursory mention. What an opportunity missed for us all! There is nothing 'wicked' about holding him to account on this Brian, it is the right thing to do and should have been done more robustly. Costs and benefits of oil should not have been shared as such in my view, this is Scotland's resource and therefore those living in Scotland should have received the benefit whilst of course meeting the costs. Going forward, for him to say that it is a declining and volatile asset and therefore shouldn't be considered is just exasperating. It is a very real and still highly desired and useful asset and should obviously be utilised to our benefit. Give us the facts to back up these wishy washy claims Calman and for goodness sake Brian will you hold him to account on this - for everyone's sake!
Speaking with confidence 11:23am on 19 May 2009 Let's face it, he was always a placeman to be used and manipulated for New Labours control - he never could speak up for the House as he was never allowed to be objective enough. It is a highly responsible position and whilst the agenda of others was nothing short of overt bigotry at times, he genuinely lacked the necessary attributes to fulfill the role. He has been left completely exposed by those who put him there, with other MP's lining up to take pot-shots in trying to deflect from their own troughing. What an expensive, insular, ugly pantomime Westminster has become - completely out-of-touch and out-of-date with those they are privelaged to serve.
'Always trust the voters' 3:20pm on 11 Mar 2009 Lib Dems lack substance full stop. Has Tavish been held to account for his petulant 'gotcha' attempt at Alex Salmond now that the FM has been officially cleared? As a political leader he was hardly tested on his 'one-trick' token tax policy contribution to the Budget, which he knew couldnt be included and then had the temerity to hide behind in justifying their no vote! We now have Clegg's non-attendance (which had to be announced!) because of nappy changing, which is no excuse given that Cable has been changing Cleggs nappy all the way through his disposable leadership! These Lib Dems are a complete irrelevance with no apparent purpose other than expressing prissy self-righteous indignation to anything they dont understand.
Inserting steel 1:56pm on 06 Mar 2009 If the unionist parties are so convinced of their 'Scotland has always rejected independence' mantra, then surely now is their time to strike. Hiding behind the recession/depression rings hollow and smacks of political cowardice.
