Who cares what option they opt for ?

These transactions will only benefit the banks. It's still creating something out of nothing and even if that something is paid back on maturity its paid back with lost value.
Temporarily increasing the money supply, (buying bonds) is simply a way to divert us from this issue.

You are confusing the existence of an imagination with the non existence of a social conscience.

I think you have too much faith in human nature Stephanie. Or at least to much faith in international bankers. The actions of these people are beyond serious discussion and logical reasoning.

They are corrupt. Their system is corrupt and everything they do is for their own benefit.

I will admit, I do admire the people on this "blog" who treat you with respect and try their hardest to deliver a reasoned argument against the stupidity and injustice of it all.
Alas, although I am trying, I doubt that I am going to be one of them. I am just too fed up now listening to correspondents simply repeating government doublespeak and banker jargon.

I've come to the conclusion now that this is not a blog anyway ! The only difference between what we read here and what we can read elsewhere on the BBC website is that we get a few personal pronouns thrown in to make it sound
personal and chatty ! Isn't that the case ?

The real difference between blog and blab is one of personal openess.

It seems to me that most BBC correspondents lack the courage to say what they believe. They sit on the fence trying to be all things to all people. That's my perception of it anyway !

Reminds me of a question I need to ask on this blog that gets answered ! Yes, I know that's not how it works, or at least not up until now.

You write your blog Robert and then we add our comments. The thing is the questions people ask you are never answered. People say you don't read the comments
Robert but I'm writing this now on the hope that you do. Or if you don't, that a moderator or some other nice person will inform you that you have 1 message waiting.

It seems to me, more and more people are talking about fractional reserve banking. (Your blog is about the rationality of
markets so this is the perfect moment to talk about the lack of rationality in the whole system)
It's not a coincidence that the subject keeps being mentioned by people here in their comments. They want you to talk about it.
After all, the whole banking system and everything that is effected by it rests on that system and you are the BBC business correspondent, are you not ? This topic definately falls within your domain.

What we want to know for starters is what do you think about it ? We want you to stop sitting on the fence and tell us like it is. Well, to tell the rest of the BBC like it is becuase the explanations concerning this system of banking have been woefully inadequate and misleading. I'm going to assume it's because the people that have explained it haven't understood it themselves but as you're an intelligent man you will get down to the facts.

We know you have connections and it might be difficult for you to do this, but if ever there were a time to tell the truth it is now.

The fact that it results in continuous inflation, and it needn't be that way.
The fact that it always depends on enslaving us in debt, and that it needn't be that way.
The fact that it redistributes wealth into the hands of a few, and it needn't be that way.
The fact that actually it is a corrupt way of controlling the money supply.

If you were to explain this, and make your position clear then maybe other people at the BBC would wake up and question the system too.

Of course, I'm not suggesting you compromise your own principles and logic. If you think it's a great system and that we need it then say so, but please tell us why and tell us honestly.

I really do think you should do this now becuase pretending it's not an issue is no longer an option.
Everything we hear and see, all the arguments that are made become meaningless if the key way of distributing money is not considered. To many of us its a deliberate distraction from the real problem
and or an attempt to keep a corrupt system in place.

PS. Looking forward to your blog on this subject.

Passing the hat 4:45pm on 12 Mar 2009 It's all very well speculating how much goes in to the hat and who puts it there but all that is irrelevant if the distribution takes place under a corrupt system.

The existing system is corrupt to the core and the initial bribe for anyone taking the money is that they worship the system and all the corrupt practises that go with.

That's the issue that this blog should be addressing.

Hand it to your friends who promise they will pay you back what you didn't have to start with.

They make a profit out of the nothing you had to start with.
They give you back the nothing you had to start with and possibly a bit more that they made from the nothing that was there to start with.

You've said so many things in your blog that it's easy to feel overwhelmed and just give up with the whole argument. Instead however I will just make one point:

Quantative easing is a redistribution of wealth from those that have earned it, to those that haven't !

Why don't you shout about that ? I hate the way the government and the media plays with words to cover up the simple facts.
This is not the great British experiment you mention. It's a deliberate strategy and the consequences (in terms of the one point you fail to mention) are known.

Why not make your blog more personal !
Tell us how you feel about the injustice in this state of affairs. Forget all the technical details for just one blog, all those details that just diverts us from the really important things that matter.

Is it fair ? Is it just ? And if it isn't what should you and I be doing about it ?

What's the difference between a one party state and our own ?

Watch parliament live anyday and you will see not a democracy but a charade. Our politicians are playing the democracy game only for their own benefit. We've reached the point now where it is pointless deciding which party we are going to vote for.

If we waste time arguing over that, then they win again and we all lose. Sure, you might be tempted to join in on the misguided belief that
you'll be better off one way rather than the other but the truth is, if you look behind their superficial arguments, all their ways are based
on corruption and greed. Their own corruption and their own greed.

It's misleading to talk of the ballot box as a conventional western safety valve.

Safety for who ?

Not for us, not for our savings that we WORKED for and which will devalue to a pittance of the value they should represent. That is a crime.

Of course, I want to live in a ballot box world as much as you do, but only on the condition that we have a media that is not controlled by
an elite whose primary goal is to perpetuate their own wealth. I would rather see social and political unrest than people conned into
believing we live in a democracy.
