A secret prayer. 3:33pm on 26 Nov 2009 Cynicism about religion is well-justified, sadly. To me, the sentiment expressed on that card is the positive side of spiritual belief, something personal that might give a life more meaning. I found it touching. Although a non-believer, I am only too happy to share space with folk who hold such views. What disinclines me and others to religious belief is (apart from the obvious) the behaviour of those that cannot share that same space without demanding that everyone else conform to their way of looking at things. If that was not happening, the writer of that card might feel more comfortable about telling others of their personal faith.
The AM Glass Box. 1:29pm on 12 Nov 2009 VH@56. I know this is sideways to your main point, but I lifted 'homophobic hatred' straight from the BBC news report. I also dislike the term 'homophobic', but it has become common currency as the media and the political class struggles to label things. Something they enjoy, apparently.

Having said that 'Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate.' A little frivolous, but he had a point.
The AM Glass Box. 09:53am on 12 Nov 2009 The problems with the 'homophobic hatred' laws. Shouldn't we be discussing this? Many of these anti-'hate speech' restrictions are extremely worthy (this one included), but is this the route we want to take? My feeling is to go the other way, and protect the right to free speech. There are other ways to protect the truly vulnerable.

AM Glass box for monday 09:52am on 26 Oct 2009 Following on from H-H@6, I suspect that the 'government' has no qualms about spouting nonsense like this since they know they will be out on their ear quite soon. Perhaps they wouldn't be getting the boot if they didn't keep messing up matters as vital as the education service with 'initiatives'.

A lot of airquotes there. Sorry.
