Loving Sandra Bullock 04:15am on 30 Jul 2009 Now i'm only 17 and have a mere 51 subscribers on my YouTube channel but I have to say, I watched The Proposal tonight and I enjoyed it, I haven't seen many of the rom-coms the good doctor referred to but I doubt they are relevant to my generation. This movie was a popcorn stuffer - easily watched, unoffensive fare to make the audience laugh and feel good about themselves. Sure it wasn't the greatest movie ever made but it did the job. There was nothing in it that I found inherently terrible and I think both Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds are very good in comedy roles. The movie I found it most similar to was Meet the Parents but if the formula's good you can't really blame the movie-makers for exploting it. All that being said I don't mind Sandra Bullock continuing with making these films if she can also choose to make some more serious, challenging films.

I was also wondering about what the Good Doctor thinks with regards to objectivism vs subjectivism in judging a film. I personally feel we need both. Oh, and can I have your job when you're done with it? (Just kidding, not really)

Another quiet spell with the laptop and you 3:00pm on 06 Mar 2009 Funny as always Doctor, but keeping with the topic of horror that you raised, I would absolutely love to hear your thoughts on one of my heroes - the truly magnificent Vincent Price. I particularly love his Edgar Allen Poe adaps with Corman.

And since you mentioned Kim Newman, what is it with horror fans film critics and their... individual approach to hair?

I'm currently working through buying the entire Roger Corman adaps of Poe's works and I just love them. Is there a place in your heart for Vincent?
You talking to me 6:32pm on 10 Feb 2009 Oh, and I would very much enjoy hearing the good doctor's opinion of Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee and ofcourse, Vincent Price.

I love the old horror films like Hammer House and Corman's Edgar Allen Poe Adap's, and being the major horror fan that he is, I think the good doctor's opinion would be very interesting indeed.
You talking to me 6:29pm on 10 Feb 2009 I think you've really hit the nail on the head there Doctor. I get increasingly annoyed with crap accents in films. Why have Tom Cruise in Valkyrie when you could have had Thomas Kretschmann. If your character is east german, then give the role to someone from east germany. It's really that simple. I also think a language reform would help separate the men from the boys in cinema. The truly greatest of the great would learn the new language enough to say their lines convincingly. Some actors already have this potential, Christopher Lee can speak something like eight languages, yet he gets cast aside all too often or forced in to crap like 'The Howling 2'.

The only problem I can see is that of viewing figures. You mentioned the American poster in the video but I think this problem is spreading. I'm 17 and I cannot see many of my peers wanting to have to go and read subtitles. "If I wanted to read i'd get a book". I would love the language reform, but i'd hate to see the death of cinema.

Oh and i've got a question. With this new 3D revolution (i.e. Avatar), how would subtitles work? Would they ruin the 'immersion'?
