I wonder if he will be so brave on the £175 billion deficit for this year. Month after month we have had treasury spokesman saying that the £175 billion was the worst case scenario and we are still on track. We all know it's going to be insufficient and next year is going to be far worse.

Nick Griffin on Question Time 11:09am on 23 Oct 2009 Not convinced that with the BBC putting the BNP in such a hostile environment helped to destroy his views. The BNP supporters will feel vindicated that the main stream parties on the panel had no answer to the perceived immigration issue.
With the recession deepening and big cuts in public sector programmes I don't see the end of the BNP just yet.
First draft of UK economic history 10:48am on 23 Oct 2009 The numbers on growth are in fact worse than the figure suggest. If you take into account that 40% of the economy (Public sector) has been expanding during the last 12 months on BORROWED money, you start to get a better idea of where we are.

The lunacy of this government continuing to spend billions of pounds that can't not be paid, will be a subject for economy students for decades to come.

The truth needs to be told that we will not recover to the position we were at 2 years ago, taxes are going to rise significantly and spending is going to be cut by 20%, not in 2 to 3 years but now.

The gamble GB has taken with our economy has been truly reckless and it will be the poor who will pay via high fuel costs and food as the pound sinks below the waves...
First draft of UK economic history 10:38am on 23 Oct 2009 Well the BBC got caught with its pants down today, quoting the recession is over from late afternoon yesterday. If you looked at your own web site a number of institutions have been saying growth was unlikely.
Bank reform: The radical way 2:35pm on 21 Oct 2009 It is simple, Turner is one of the bankers and looking after their interests and King is looking at the economy as a whole. Turner is quite happy for the status quo to remain with slightly more regulation.

It made me laugh today when the Gordon Brown stated that the Northern Rock collapse had nothing to do with "Out of control" merchant banks and their associates.

The reality is we can't afford another financial collapse and I think the Tories will agree with King on the principle that financial institutions have to stand on their own feet or be allowed to fail. The tax payer needs to be removed from the position of "Fool of last resort".

It's a massive change and may reduce the GDP by 5%. But it is going to be worth it in the long run. Its going to take us 20 years to get us out of this mess, but the next one will finish us off for sure...

The banks don't get it and never will, it is NOT in their interest to shut shop...

I have doubted Mervyn's convictions in the past, but he has come through. Well done, brave speech and enjoy your retirement next year...
Is all publicity good publicity? 09:49am on 21 Oct 2009 If the truth be told, the BNP are attempting to fill the gap left by Labour and in particular their inability to control immigration in a meaningful way. I am no BNP supporter but there are lots out there that agree with their policies on tightening up on immigration.

Don't dismiss the idea that it won't happen here, the conditions are "Perfect" especially when you add in the massive cuts in public services that WILL happen from next year. Note it was the depression in the 1930's that enabled the Nazi party in Germany to expand exponentially.

The government has not been honest with the general public on "Where we are" and this deceit will fuel the perception that politicians are dishonest. If the BNP do gain support it will be due to the inabilities and ideologies of the current Labour leaders.

Gordon Brown and his colleagues have a lot to answer ...

I am not talking about first timer's with 1 no BTL.I am talking about large institutions .You can take it or leave it but the large margins are there and reduced capital cost will only make the argument more valid..
