Why did Bank of England keep shtoom? 9:36pm on 24 Nov 2009 I suspect that Mervyn King is a law unto himself in these matters. I agree that it would have made more sense to make the information public at the time. How else are markets to operate effectively if important information is suppressed and withheld from investors?
Introducing green cuts 8:30pm on 24 Nov 2009 Of course, Labour concedes that it has struggled to cut emissions by 10% in central government. It is the party of the 'Big State'. I suspect that with the austerity that will be needed to 'balance the books' both parties will be able to achieve this target. But the Conservatives have tabled it so brownie points to them on this occasion. Well done George Osborne. Lets see what Mr Darling comes up with in his spending review.

Now 12 years later, students are to be guaranteed high quality state education. Excuse me, which party has been in office since 1997? This measure alone shows how low this government has sunk in its treatment of the electorate. Are we really that stupid?

Miliband's future 'in UK politics' 09:42am on 10 Nov 2009 A strange topic for a blog this one when there are plenty of other issues bubbling away. Anyway - I am sure that if any of us were in David Milliband's shoes we would not be tempted by the Euro job. That being so, what else is there but to concentrate on domestic politics? Gordon Brown will take Labour into the next election as Peter Mandelson will continue to pull the strings.
