It would appear my wife miss-informed me about Freddy...appears his knee swelling is now OK so he is definate contender for Oval (praise THE LORD)

England must win at The Oval, a draw is no good..

I have just heard Freddy is already ruled out, if this is just a selection issue then the first big mistake has just been made, the LAD inspires other players with his massive enthusiasm and his presence on the field is vital....already 1-0 to Australia.
Its Freddys last test, he will give 500% injured or not, anyway he could just be played as a batter....cant do worse than middle order at Headingly
I would play him regardless and take a chance.

Bopara I would leave out but tell him he goes to SA.

Its worth a punt on Ramprakash,if he gets 20 in each innings at The Oval hes done better than the whole of the middle order at Headingly, he is under no pressure to keep his place and can play his natural game, so for me he is a good bet.
Similarly Rob Key, but he could be a big contender for SA SO UNDER MORE PRESSURE.

Only other change for me would be Sidebottom for Harmison, good county bowler...cant handle top level anymore (appaling at Headingly apart from ball that got Katitch.)

Massive effort needed from whole team, they must be absolutly on top of their game, toss could be vital. Lets make the right decision this time if we win it, if Aussies win it and bat for 'GOD SAKE LETS BOWL PROPERLY THIS TIME!'
Win or loose I want to see a contest that will be remembered, if England loose they must loose 'gloriously' if England win I shall be happiest man on planet.

Oh and lets have LILY ALLEN on view from the boundary, I'm a fan, probobly her oldest!

Crass decision to bat first at Headingly, England held the 'whip hand' being 1 up.
Positive approach would be to put Aussies under pressure i.e. bung um in, doubt about history of Headingly, ball swinging etc etc.
Did Priors back spasm influence Strauss decision to bat?.. would'nt be suprised.
Why Harmison (What a load of rubbish he bowled) and not Sidebottom?? Sidebottom would revel in conditions.
Listen to Boycs, he's best authority and reads the situations better than any pundits out there, make him selector, coach and overall cricket supremo and ENGLAND will do much better.
Why does a professional international cricketer persist in bowling short when its obvious that the ball that gets the wickets on this sort of pitch should be pitched up, I am so disappointed.
Why play football as a warm up? lots of instances of injuries in pre-match football warm ups....
THIS GAME WILL BE ALL OVER IN LESS THAN 3 DAYS....WELL DONE AND WELL PLAYED AUSTRALIA

My son was 10 yrs old in 1981..we know what happened then.!
He and his contempories all took up an enthusiastic interest in the great game thanks to SIR IAN,GOWER,LAMB,WILLIS and co.
Shalford Cricket Club benefitted from this, most of them were converted, many still playing. Kept them off the streets and Shalford CC is a thriving village CC.now.
There must be many potential England fast bowlers out there, particularly of WI descent, if only the government of this country would recognise the importance of THIS SPORT (and others) in getting these youngsters off the streets and a chance to do something worthwhile with their lives.....get sport back into the state schools big time.
75 years of hurt are ended 6:04pm on 20 Jul 2009 The trivial cricket cannot compare with the cricket seen in the two ashes tests so far....!
I am so pleased that the cricket has lived up to all our expectations...who are these people who want to consign test cricket to the bin...never ..never ...never.
Proof of the pudding is in the eating...full houses every day, matches swinging first one way then the other....massive performances from players of both teams, no names no pack drill.
I have had a great buzz so far and would like to send my congratulatins to both sides for producing some excellent cricket and entertainment.
Also congratulations to the TMS crew for some excellent commentry, asides, views from the boundary and other stuff.

Ashes player ratings - First Test 8:27pm on 12 Jul 2009 What a load of rubbish, forget all these player ratings...means nothing...at the end of the day this is a HUGE RESULT for England after the last 2 days...team effort even tho top guns failed. If England had lost they would be chasing the series throughout.
If I were to make any changes it would be ..Onions for Panesar, drop Pieterson, make him think about his responsibility to the team, give Bell a chance and get the bowlers to bowl at top of off stump...

Why couldnt next game be put back to say 1600 start and make NZ v Scotland a full 20 20, is there no flexibility in rules to allow this??

Why start a 'Test Match' on a Wednesday, chances are it will all be all over by Friday.......18,000 tickets sold for Saterday..........I rest my case!!!

Shane Warne moaning about playing 1st Test at Cardif and saying it should be at Lords, whats he on...always Lords Test was the second Test, earlyish June. Tell him to go home.

I played Hockey for 'MAORI CLUB' for 30 odd yrs, during late 60's we had a full back line up as follows.

Be interested if anyone remembers Cricket at this wonderful place, used to play NZ tourists at begining of their tour....look up WISDEN 1958....
Bill Frindall (1939-2009) 5:54pm on 30 Jan 2009 What a shock...my sincere condolances to Bill's family, friends and colleagues.
I will miss Bill on TMS as I am sure everyone else will.
I have had so much pleasure from all the statistics, odd facts etc etc.
Bill was one of those people who contributed to CRICKET being such a great game.
He will be sorely missed!
