• Renewable euros 5:24pm on 19 Oct 2009 This is potentially great news - Scotland has had some very encouraging renewable energy news in the last few weeks (CEERE etc) - and i hope for all our sakes that they can deliver euroscot. Good to see SSE (Scottish Hydro Electricity) invloved in them, at least they are UK-based and not part by a massive international conglomerate like the rest of the big energy companies. Im sure we'll all be watching what happens with the funding with great interest.
• Turning up the heat 2:24pm on 24 Aug 2009 The Scottish Govt is certainly not shy in promoting its 'green' cred wherever possible, infact i think they're in danger of irritating the general public slightly (im getting there myself, and im as green as they come).
  
  Last week we had the opening of the Scottish European Green Energy Centre in Aberdeen (SEGEC) (an attempt to establish the city as a green enrgy hub, by attracting funding with the help of scottish power suppliers and various other bodies). Also, we had the Zero Waste Strategy (http://news.scotsman.com/politics/Minister-unveils-plans-for-a.5575188.jp.)
  
  Add these to several other announcements over the last few months and you can undertsand why the Scottish public might be feeling a little 'greened' out. Can someone actually explain to us what the real tangible benefits to all of this are to our country?

• Woods ready to light up Turnberry 4:52pm on 13 Jul 2009 Nice post Iain - obviously, i agree that the weather will play a critical role in how the weekend will unfold. Looking at the BBC forecast for Thursday and Friday, it's looking 'ok', however it's Saturday and Sunday conditions that really count. Tiger to win, but i don't think Kaymer and Padraig will be far behind............

• Behind the scenes in Manchester 11:55am on 21 Apr 2009 Dennis - im pretty sure the politicians and the journos have a good time at every conference - i happened to be staying at this hotel in manchester when this conference was taking place and ive rarely come across such a rowdy bunch!
• Scotland can't freeze against Iceland 2:25pm on 20 Apr 2009 Don't worry lads - we'll get the Dutch back one day. I had a superb time in Amsterdam anyway, despite the result. • Caravans - love them or loathe them? 1:56pm on 20 Apr 2009 Im not a caravanner personally but i have alot of friends and family who regularly caravan and they seem to love it. The flexibility is the main attraction i think, they can pick and choose destinations without worrying about the quality of accommodation. Their travel is not just limited to home soil however - nowadays, many ferry operators (http://www.dfdsseaways.co.uk/) are allowing caravans - opening up the whole of the European continent. Only wish i had the time to join them!
• Are package holidays the cheapest option? 1:45pm on 20 Apr 2009 This is a timely piece from Dom. Myself and a number of my friends have booked our holidays by this methodology this year, we were just a bit fed up of getting ripped off. As mentioned in the article, i think people are a little reticent to book a package as they feel that they will be tied down to an agenda without any flexibility. However, i can assure them that this is not the case. There are a number of blogs (i.e. http://cheapukferries.wordpress.com) and websites (i.e. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/) out there where you can find some very useful information and opinion. Well worth a look before you book.
• NHS at 60 - A picture of health 3:00pm on 17 Mar 2009 What an interesting thread, so many opinions and experiences! It's quite difficult to ascertain the true state of the NHS. Like almost everyone here, ive has both good and (more recently ) bad experiences with the NHS. I do feel that it is a system that is worth keeping and defending.
  
  However, i am increasingly coming round to thinking that that with the UKs ageing population, the private sector has a role to play in coping with the burden somewhat. Perhaps the larger health insurance companies could begin to provide a wider range of policies to cover a greater breath of the population. Just an idea.
