Watson ready for next step 01:19am on 23 Oct 2009 Some comments here are simply hollow,shallow, very predictable and shockingly sad.Some cry about the poor girl's height.What do they expect,that the girl grows taller somehow?How tall was Amanda coutzer of SA?Wasn't she a success in her own right?Who says 5',7" is too short for tennis? How tall was Huddin, the girl who caused upsets at the US open not so long ?
And what is wrong with the kid learning her trade in the US? Does that change her nationality or what?I thought you want to celebrate the best of her and if she can get her self best conditioned there for whatever reason, so what?Before blaming anyone,have you heard the girl say she left England for the US for some LTA connected reason ?
Then Someone comes out like some kind of guru of a fortune teller to say:"I wouldn't put any money on her doing anything special in her career"Huh!nice try.That's some mirror into the future ,but isn't it so archaic to make such a suggestion before she is even started! Who are you anyway?That kind of comment makes could only come from a loser.
Trophy ends in blazer of glory 3:47pm on 07 Oct 2009 Who wouldn't want such a draw? You get into a tournament with a bunch of untested characters and your first match is against a hapless West Indies with all key players absent.After scrapping through,you face India also without their key batsmen and to save your day,rain washes out the match ,forcing you to share points.Then there is the small matter of getting one run off the last ball against Pakistan ,otherwise meeting the erratic but all foo familiar England in the semi finals and injury hit Kiwis in the final makes for an ideal scenario to finish it off.There you are!not only have you successfully defended your trophy but you have also become number one in the world again.It is now a small matter of proving your status in seven one day matches against India that you have to worry, but that is in the future ,otherwise done deal.
Champions Trophy surpasses expectations 3:41pm on 04 Oct 2009 A well balanced post.As objective as should be.A few with their isms are already crying foul about Johnson but 1 for 61 in their semi final against England says it all.Through the Ashes the ICC tourney it is quite difficul to see how Johnson and his newly acquired status tally.
The SA team in this tournament has been as disappointing as their crowds.Their management needs to be put to task should they bid to host a similar event in future.
Of course the Aussies have gone on to get to the finals and looking back at it all,they are the one side that have had everything or just nearly everything going for them in the event.How appropriate that they should meet an all too familiar rival in the final.The outcome is almost predictable.But,we hope it does not become a repeat of one of the semi final matches where England seemed to have given their best to beat only South Africa and let the wheels off their truck from then on.It would be a fitting end to the event if only the black caps give us a thrilling fight for it or even go on to win in the end.
Del Potro sets seal on memorable US Open 1:06pm on 18 Sep 2009 Wrong,Del potro did not win because he had a big serve.That is not what helped him in the fourth and fifth set.He simply had a better reply to all the tests Federrer threw at him.
It was a welcome change at the top which fortunately I predicted correctly after watching the Nadal semi final lashing.Federrer has done his part in lifting the standards of the men's game and it is a high time we celebrated a new set of contenders for the top.Del potro if he can be consistent will hold the top spot in the long run.
Nadal may have been hampered by the injury at the US open, but it is hard to see a game in him that suggests a return to dominance in the men's game.Murray's failure in all the slams now appears to lead to the conclusion that he like Gonzales may turn out to be that 'hot and cold'type of player who threatens but never becomes quite good enough to win a slam.Considering the surge of other talent-Soderling and Del potro and Cilic,I wouldn't be surprised to see Murray slide to number five or six in ranking.
In all, a good tournament and a good mirror to view what the future may look like.The Australian open seems an open affair for the trophy for me.Can't wait!
Yang the History Man 10:45pm on 20 Aug 2009 Most of these hyped expectations about Asian golfers and fear of other golfers is alaughable misreading of the facts.Can anyone explain how Woods could have infuenced the par 70 average score across the field and the multitude of scores above par on the final day?Was it just out of fear of Woods? Surely that fortuitous eagle that changed the complexion of the game cannot be an excuse to say Yang dominated the round,would it?The taste of the pudding is in the eating.I believe conclusions of the future of Woods game or others verses Woods is still to be reached over the next PGA season.Will Yang sand the test of time in the PGA?Time will tell
Woods came from injury competed in a number of tournaments and won in four of them.Ssome who are said to be able to challenge him going forward did not even get close to winning a tournament while he was injured.I'm not sure that was all about feaar of Woods.He missed the cut in the British open,remember who nearly beat the remainder of that outstanding field?
Some have come out of the woodwork to begin raising moral questions and suggesting fines.How many guys spit and curse on a golf course?Just because you do not pay attention to the others is no excuse for you to suggest Woods is a villain of some sort.He has not chosen to be number one or the spot light.You might as well ask the camera men to focus elsewhere or Niki,etc to withdraw their endorsements from him.Woods is only human and should be free to express his anger like anybody else.How do you teach that anyway?
Legends don't just come around every other day.To win 14 majors is phenomenol.Coming second in a quest for the 15th is no mean feat.Woods will not just fall away or apart as some wish him to.He will win again.Yang will vanish.
Misfiring Australia consider their options 7:27pm on 27 Jul 2009 Including Johnson in a team for historical reasons or simply as a scarecow is ridiculous to say the least.He did well in SA,yes but that is a series long gone and since then he has become indifferent.It could be the sting of losing a series back home to SA that sparked him into the fighting spirit he had and now he just doesn't have the same emotions about the Ashes that others expect him to.
Whatever it is I believe the Aussies are safer fielding a player in form and likely to help his team get 20 wickets.Watson or Clarke is that player,based on current form.Otherwise the cricket of scarecows doesnt quite work in a very important series like this one.
Remember also that Johnson may be bowling well but the opposition have learnt to cope with him.In 2005,England still had a fiery lee and Warne to contend with but won the series.Bottom line,an in form bowler play if Johnson has a'problem'.
My World Twenty20 predictions 2:00pm on 18 Jun 2009 Why doesn't anybody want a South African victory? Are they that bad that even Pakistan should be considered an obvious victor over them?The irony here may actually be that you are throwing the mockers on the very teams you predict to beat them.SA are not such a poor team and you know it.Gul may have played well but SA have faced him and Afridi before.
Im not sure pakistan have never met Steyn,Parnell or Van der merwe.Infact Kalis and Botha are the only bowlers they know in the SA squad.These are not the days of the one dimensional Ntini or the low paced Pollock who depended on line and length more than pace in the later part of his career.
If indeed pakistan are rated so highly,we wait to see them prove your point but objectively speaking,it sounds more of wishful thinking on your part.
Beacon of hope or white elephant? 03:14am on 18 Jun 2009 Was this investigative reporting really interested in the facts or it is one of those stereotypes aimed at painting Africa as a dead continent as usual?.Its hard to avoid such questions if the reporter's attention seemed so irresistably glued to boys in garbage dumps,where registered black rugby players go to and all other un related negatives.How about the absence of such a facility being the reason for local initiatives in the past for a start?
If you do your homework,it may surprise you how the presence of such magnificient stadia in most parts of the world have ended up becoming the attraction of the crowds you wonder about now rather than the opposite.A good recent example is China that has shown after the Olympics that it is not only games that attract revenue to such historic venues.It has been reported that millions continue to flock to the Bird's nest and other venues to claim their place in that part of Chinese history at a price,hence amazing revenue flows un foreseen before the event .So,it is logical to speculate on the challenges of generating revenue at this venues after the world cup,but it is unlikely to be correct to assume that the current business models suggested in the article or in response to the article necessarily constitute the few options available after the main event.Iam not sure comparisons to the Wembley and other England settings is really accurate.These are sports facilites in a totally different setting laying a foundation for a new historic dispensation.The future is definitely understudied by the reporter.He did not research enough.
