Riga: Slump City 00:54am on 19 Mar 2009 Wow, those are some stats. Hard to imagine Brown being able to enforce any kind of paycut on public sector. Thinking about it he'd argue it's a non-starter as public sector pay causes inflation and thus must be an excellent remedy to deflation.

At any rate, another excellent blog based on in the field investigation Paul! Keep up the good work, you're getting a loyal following it seems, even if it is, so far, small.

The anger out there 03:13am on 10 Feb 2009 I am surprised that there are not more bankers trying to protect themselves against the obvious coming storm of popular opinion.

If I were a high profile recipient of bailout and bonus I'd be giving the bonus back and be thankful I get to keep my job!

Unfair? We may have to hope so 5:19pm on 09 Feb 2009 Well as to the prudent banks being punished this is really just a re-statement of the biggest problem with the government plan, huge moral hazard.

And this will exist unless they retroactively confiscate bonus' for the irresponsible bankers. Otherwise future generations of bankers will see that generating system threatening risks whilst pocketing huge payoffs is a great risk free method of making money.

They're stating that the important change is bankers bonus' in the past and are agitating to have those bonus' confiscated:

Welcome to Stephanomics 1:31pm on 23 Jan 2009 Excellent, glad to see the BBC aiming to provide some education on economics theory.

Any chance you can cover the objections raised against standard economic theory by ecological economics?

I'm reading 'Ecological Economics and Sustainable Development by Herman E. Daly' at the moment, I think it would be highly useful if the topic could be taken to a wider audience.
