Mike in basingstoke, and officers like him, are a blight on the force. The really sad thing is that officers in many communities still have to live with mistrust & disrespect 25 years on because of bad apples like him which were shipped to the pits from darn sarf, for a holiday of knocking miners heads together.
Matt Stevens on why he took cocaine 1:08pm on 05 Mar 2009 I think it's shocking that such a promising player is going to miss possibly the peak of his career because of some bad decisions in his personal life. He was clearly under a lot of pressure, just as clearly he's contrite and knows he's made a mistake...ruining his career is a huge injustice.

Sports governing bodies need to realise they're not moral stewards of society at large. We already have enough of those, thanks very much.
BBC newsreaders told to read out URLS, phone numbers for blind viewers 1:59pm on 20 Feb 2009 I'm interested to see how the beeb will deal with URLs such as http://www.virginholidayscruises.co.uk/cruise-destinations/far-east/costa-cruises/costa-allegra/14,40/2009-05-01x2009-06-30/fly-cruise/ (to pick one at random from tabs I have open).

A service like cli.gs might be the best way forward? Though I guess relying on a 3rd party service wouldn't be desirable in the long run.

What's Newcastle Gateshead's future as a cultural centre? 3:20pm on 14 Feb 2009 One good event from last year was the bamboo bridge: the night itself was a bit of a damp squib (they were very late in lighting it up, but it was still a cool project to see going up, and well worth doing even if the grand finale was more whimper than bang.
What's Newcastle Gateshead's future as a cultural centre? 3:14pm on 14 Feb 2009 Can't remember the artist's name (shame on me, I know) but it was an installation in the form of a tunnel made out of lots of TVs and old junk. You walked through it and there was a slide at the end. Any commentary on society and media at the end of which you get to go "wheeee!" is OK by me.
What's Newcastle Gateshead's future as a cultural centre? 01:21am on 14 Feb 2009 Good call on covering Viz, even if it isn't as funny as it used to be.

Aside from his work on the comic Chris Donald's "Rude Kids" is a great book. It's about Viz and Chris Donald, but it's also about growing up on Tyneside, trying to balance artistic and commercial constraints, Donald's personal demons...a great read.

Wish I could praise the Baltic also, but of the two dozen visits I've made over the last four years exactly one has made me excited.
