Obama's Afghan announcement 10:42pm on 01 Dec 2009 Maybe if the foreign policy of the USA were not to colonise the world with its currency we might all feel a lot safer.
So what are the chances of the military industrial complex investing in peace and not war?
Yeah right NONE. If these wars were successful, as promised every time, and peace and security were obtained they would not only lose profit but they would go out of business. Fat chance of any success for any of these wars then...

No it was a nod, a tip of the hat, and a huge amount of tax diverted to the military industrial complex post cold war (when the military industrial complex never had it so good). So these pathetic troop numbers bandied around even by the general "at the front" are farcical and I think we all know that by now.

Joking aside the current plans of using and use of human waste from sewage plants is dangerous and polluting. Processed waste from sewage plants has not had the heavy metals removed and other dangerous chemicals and the farmers are already using this product on the fields. With ever larger fields of dried ploughed soil, without hedge wind break and dust capture, those chemicals and heavy metal particulates not only make their way into the food chain but airborne into the home. Since it is a known fact dust from the Sahara makes its way all across the Atlantic Ocean a dry summer in the UK in a heat wave is likely to see fine particulates of heavy metals blowing into the towns and cities. Processed human waste from sewage plants should be banned from being used in farming across the whole of Europe. And food produced in other countries with this disgusting industrial process should be stopped at the European border.

It should be seriously considered how much pollution is caused by pharmaceuticals in the composting process also. Since anti biotics have been found in the vegetable food chain coming into it via manure from cattle pharmaceuticals it is a growing problem which ever way you want to look at it. Recycled water is already a case where potable water contains hormones and drug residues in the large cities.

Since sea levels are rising, because of this sideshow and the whole of the rest of the side show, relativistically Dubai is sinking. All that property at the water line will go under the sea. It is one huge folly just like the rest of the huge folly.

Computing for older users: Patronising or practical? 3:47pm on 11 Nov 2009 I think it is time to think about how computer dependent society has become. What about people who refuse to use computers? Nothing wrong with that. Or are they to be forced to use a computer? The benefits of computers has been programmed into people however the distinct disadvantages have not been advertised. The multiplication of bureaucracy for instance has not been mentioned nor the multiplication of form filling as a consequence and the resultant increase in paper consumed. The inevitable rip off from the printer side of computing. A bath full of printer ink is the same cost as an expensive house and the criminally wasteful design of printers which are designed to fail and become part of the landfill. The costs to our planet may be becoming prohibitive... The power usage for instance is too high for what the machine does for the user and perhaps the money spent on that power might be better spent on something more useful like heating in the winter... It is not all rosey regarding how long these machines last before they become redundant, burned out, and yet another liability. So if people don't want to use computers what is wrong with that?

It means they said hello. But they are not prepared to publicly admit they said hello. Which may, for all anyone knows, be a political euphemism for they rolled a few joints for later after the meeting.

I think professor Nutt was only doing what any professional does when an abusive employer bases a decision on simpleton morality and not on the whole picture with a coherent analysis of the circumstances both personal and societal. He was merely distancing himself and the organisation he worked for from politicians who have no ethical responsibility and continually massage their own careers and pockets.

Good luck Professor, a very large percentage of the population including people from all walks of life see the legal pursuit of cannabis users illogical, absurd, and a complete waste of police time.

Holland is closing many prisons due to lack of prisoners. A saving of police time and a large chunk of tax payers money with a reduction in crime because less people are being pushed into harder drugs which do not remain in the body after testing. The British government by its action is effectively pushing heroin. The same heroin that finances terrorists in Afghanistan. Not very bright of our politicians. In fact they look utterly stupid and un-vote-worthy. But then what does anyone expect from the Conservative or Labour Parties really?...
Oh yes! more CCTV more ID cards more... yes the list goes on...

and let me guess there have been no studies on how many people have been driven paranoid by being watched continually by the British government which operates more surveillance than the former Stalinist DDR(East Germany) ever had.

Spotting a red flag 06:24am on 10 Nov 2009 My guess is a whole lot of peripheral contacts will be made to sound far more important than they really are and the real cause will be covered up. How much persistent bigotry did the man face on a daily basis before he cracked.
