The PM Glass Box. 5:26pm on 15 May 2009 Cops Go Softly On Hunting - A Total Disgrace. What a surprise (NOT) that the cops don't want to prosecute the animal torturers. I guess it might put them in the embarrassing position of having to nick some of their own bosses' 'society' pals. What a nice victory for the sadism lobby that masquerades as 'country sports'. All this proves is that a vastly more rigid law is needed that puts animal torturers behind bars.
The PM Glass Box. 6:01pm on 11 May 2009 I do not agree with a 'noneoftheabove' box. We the electorate get the politicians we deserve. If they're crap it's our fault for tolerating them. Labour Tory and Liberal supporters should all join their parties, likewise all other party supporters. Once joined they should engage in the system and actively seek to replace useless and/or bent politicians with someone better. If voters play the "I'm smug and aloof" act they will carry on getting substandard service. We can't expect God to send us better public servants; it's not going to happen. The vote and therefore the power is ultimately in our hands and if we do not use it we have nobody else to blame and no right to complain if we stay at home. If I felt unable to vote for anyone else I would spend the deposit money and put myself up. (In that regard of course, it's just a pity madam Thatch jacked up the deposit from the affordable £150 to try and stop the Monster Raving Loonies putting up againt her in Finchley, but then again she never did have a sense of humour.)
Dreams, audacity, hope, despair... 6:04pm on 21 Jan 2009 There is a lot of talk about the need to manage expectations. Right-wing media-mouths such as the Telegraph's Simon Heffer can't remind us often enough that Obama is only mortal. Like we don't know that. I don't need my expectations managing and I don't need telling what I already know about his non-deity status. I'm just ecstatically happy that a man I believe to be innately good, intelligent, honest and dignified now runs the most powerful state on Earth. I never expected to see a Great President of the USA in my lifetime but now I think I will. To me it's like the election victory of '68 that Bobby should have won. It's 40 years late, but worth waiting for. Such is the reach and power of the US's influence on world culture, we are most of us Americans to some degree, even though we're not its citizens. That's OK by me, because Ive always loved America, but now it's elected Obama I'm proud of America as well. (In case you're wondering I'm white, British and from Yorkshire!)
Just confirmed for tonight's programme... 5:27pm on 19 Jan 2009 Tory donors threatening to cut off financial support now Ken Clarke is back need to wind their necks in and get back in their boxes. The same applies to the likes of Rupert Murdoch. We shouldn't tolerate so-called tycoons who try to buy up British politics. I'm not a Tory or a Europhile but I do think the bloke has a contribution to make. He's certainly an improvement to what is otherwise pretty much a crew of nonentities in the shadow cabinet.
