Yes I think there is a case worth investigating.

Remember R P got the nod from a ''source in the city''.

Lloyds, led up the Garden Path by the government, got their hand bitten off by the Chairman of HBOS when they offered (£2.32, having been £3.50 not long before) a deal.
That's(when HBOS became keen to do a deal) when the danger lights should have sounded.
With bank shares in market freefall there was no need to do deals. Unless, perhaps, the government had hinted strongly to Lloyds that a banking bailout was on the way and they would effectively only get this one chance to buy a company like HBOS.

Yes, Newcastle Ashley et al, lost plenty of money, but because the market rejigged, I think few made any money. I think most just made less losses, then what could have been, when the offer was finally agreed.

As regards price fluctuations, in certain circumstances, it only needs one source to move a market.

Is the aforementioned Bank Of England's actions satisfactory?
If so, by proxy, can the government circumvent the ''necessary'' break up of banks currently mooted ??

My point concerned the BBC pandering to Google to get their ''headlines'' onto page 1 of a Google Search. I suggested that this was the real reason for enabling online users to ''find the story more easily''.
I also suggested that this was a step towards Product Placement on programmes and receiving increased advertising income on web content.

If I am addressing anyone in particular I usually signpost their comment number or name.

Accessing my e-mail account, the BBC has said the reason for removal of the above is that I am ''off-topic''
Spot the difference 4:58pm on 23 Nov 2009 I think it's worth bearing in mind that much of the monetary work being done to take us out of the recession is the 0.5% interest rate and quantitative easing. Since this is the responsibilty of an independent Bank Of England Board,it's a bit much for politicians to claim all the credit.
Or is the independence of the BOE in question ??
