Trailer Treachery 11:15am on 23 Oct 2009 District 9 is the only movie I've seen where I thought I had been flat-out lied to by the advertising. I thought this film would be entirely from the perspective of the diagetic cameras (ie Blair Witch, Cloverfield). I got that for the first twenty-something minutes, but after that it suddenly switched to your usual normal narrative. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I felt like I had been cheated by the marketing of this film.
The Revisitations of Doctor Kermode 11:56am on 15 Oct 2009 To me, it seems strange that this many people can go from hating a film to absolutely loving it, or vice versa. My first impression of a film is usually the one that sticks. I've seen Mulholland Drive, Donnie Darko, There Will Be Blood, Eraserhead, Irreversible, and Mirror many times and I've enjoyed them just as much on repeated viewings as I had on my first viewing on them. Perhaps one day I will come across a film (again) and realise my love/hate for it.
The Greatest Megabudget Movie Ever Made 5:15pm on 30 Sep 2009 I'm as surprised as everyone else to see that the good Doctor prefers Howard the Duck over Apocalypse Now, Terminator 2, Jaws, Aliens, or any of the other classic big-budget films.

But ... Doctor ... please, can you explain to me.....

Cost report 12:40pm on 20 Sep 2009 Stories about (independant) films that cost barely any money to make, yet make back tons of money or gather a huge fan-base is encouraging for young film-makers because there's always the chance that one of those guys will make a small film that will become a hit.
Heartless in mouth 1:16pm on 29 Aug 2009 I always try to set my expectations at neutral before I see any film, but there are some film-makers that (annoyingly) make me anticipate more. Paul T. Anderson, David Lynch, Martin Scorsese, Gaspar Noe, and, of course, Jim Cameron. Avatar trailer looks good to me, but I'm sure the hype and anticipation felt by many who have had blue balls for near 11 years now may end up being *crushed*.

Review: Vincent Cassel in Mesrine 3:13pm on 07 Aug 2009 Vincent Cassel is surely a fine French actor, though I should really see more of his work. He did a brilliant job as a young actor in La Haine, and is terrific in Irreversible (where most of his dailogue is improvised).
Kermode Uncut 2.0: Public Service Announcement 2:02pm on 17 Jun 2009 Easy-to-use?! I find this site rather easy-to-use so far. In fact, technically, this site doesn't need to much over-hauling, just a better player for the videos would be nice.
Review: Terminator Salvation 04:46am on 09 Jun 2009 Dr. K, it wasn't a lighting man/camera-man Bale went ape at, it was the cinematographer Shane Hurlbut.
Also, don't mean to critisize you further, but your quiff is looking particularly floppy. You should be able to stand right next to an operating helicopter and it should stand in place.
Tab me to hell 07:00am on 06 Jun 2009 I agree with a lot of the comments here that actual crimes are not usually linked to horror movies anymore, but more so to video games nowadays. It's not that the threat of this "panic" is now gone as you say; it's still there, but now through a new host.
