That was horrid, Henry 2:43pm on 20 Nov 2009 Haven't posted here for a while but after seeing what Roy Keane had to say I could hold my peace no longer.
He used his weekly press conference to have a go at the FAI (as if they had handled the ball) and then proceeded to blame the Irish defenders and goalkeeper for the goal. Coming from a man who is manager of a team with one of the worst defensive records in the English game this is both unbelievable and laughable at the same time and says an awful lot about the character of the man. It took the attention away from the lamentable record of the team he manages, I suppose.
And, one other thing. Gas in an earlier post said many Irish people no longer felt the same about following the Irish team after Saipan. This is absolute rubbish. Has he done a survey? Was there a poll he can point to? I also find his comments about his disillusionment with cheating in sport hard to take. He has consistently defended the serial simulators in the Man Utd team on an ongoing basis.
For the record I do not think Henry is a cheat. His actions were instinctive. Footballers can make decisions in a split second they can later regret. My gripe is with FIFA for doing nothing about it. They control the game. Let them bring in a citing system with appropriate punishments both for the player and the team and this type of incident will become rarer and rarer.
Winners and boozers 10:11pm on 30 Sep 2009 I have just read Gas Bags latest post above and, I think, we are last getting to see his true character. No more "witty" one-liners and football related banter. Just the sad deluded ramblings of a know-nothing know-it-all (Cf Homer Simpson). He sees no irony in the fact that his post is one long stream of abuse where he accuses me of abusing people.
It is obvious, given the amount of time that he is on this forum that he has no real friends, that it would be impossible for him to have a relationship and that he has no job. Even his claim that he is a manure student are looking less and less likely. the only thing going for him is that he is a man united supporter and is clinging on for dear life to the vicarious glory this gives him.
this is in spite of the fact that he is from Dublin and has no obvious connection with Manchester. These are called, I am led to believe, McFans (appropriately given the ongoing debate above). If he was genuinely interested in soccer he would support a local team in Dublin. There are plenty to choose from and then he would not be able to complain that he would need to be a Kerry millionaire to be able to follow his team on a regular basis.

But, of course, there is no glory in that.
Winners and boozers 9:54pm on 30 Sep 2009 Before I begin I would like to say that I consider TommyO to be the cleverest and wittiest contributor to this forum. His unrelenting skewering of the bombast and pomposity of the two most regular contributors to this blog is something I genuinely admire.

He has drawn praise for his analogy with McDonalds and JDRs complaints on the quality of this blog. Again, I have to re-iterate that I am a fan of Robbos and look forward to his twice weekly missives on this website.

However, if I could look at his analogy and maybe slightly modify it to reflect reality it could throw some light on the subject.

My take on it is that JDR and Andre enter McDonalds and partake of the fare therein. They like certain aspects of the experience, say speed of service and tastiness of fare. However, they believe that certain improvements could be made and, in the spirit of constructive criticism decide to let their views be known to the manager. They tell him that rather than concentrate solely on burgers, fries and shakes maybe the restaurant should offer something more substantial, for example, maybe include healthier options on the menu, reduce the amount of fat and sugar in their products, consider providing a bespoke coffee service and ensuring that the childrens menu encourages healthy eating. While they are making their views known to the manager several customers (including two who spend all their time there) begin to harass, harangue and hector JDR and Andre telling them that if they don’t like the fare on offer they can shove off somewhere else, that they like it just the way it is and why don’t they go and open their own restaurant if they think they can do any better. When they reply that their areas of expertise do not include restaurant management and are making known their views purely as customers they are then subjected to a constant barrage of “witty” one-liners and questions as to whether they have had a “burgers and fries by-pass”.

Now the amusing thing about all of this is that McDonalds has changed substantially in the last ten years to include all the items detailed above. This has meant that a company which was haemorrhaging customers for years is now achieving solid growth again. If they had just listened to their customers who genuinely loved the experience and did not want it to change they would now be going out of business. It was the dissidents and lost customers who saved the company, not the fans.

This from a man who made up a little song about having the 100th post and then posted it to find that it wasn't. His most amusing postings are always when he is not trying to be funny. I particularly liked the one where he claimed to have got a degree from a "red-brick university". Honestly, you couldn't make it up.

It is also interesting to see Gas' references to "back door shennanigans" and other, no doubt, witty references to what Kerry farmers get up to with their sheep. Especially when he actually "came out" in this blog. He has been backtracking on that quicker than a full-back with Ronaldo running at him ever since. We have learned that he has a wife and a child on the way. Methinks he protests too much.

RBA, Rotter and Root, I have to say I do not hate any of ye. Hate is a very strong and emotive word. In order to truly hate someone you must first fear them. If you look back on when I first contributed to this forum it was simply to defend the character and reputation of Mick McCarthy whom Gas had tried to belittle and abuse in one of his many incoherent posts. I'm sure, at that stage, you intervened on the side of your friend (in as much as anyone can have friends in cyberspace), as you all usually do, and therefore became enjoined in a debate I did not wish to involve any of you in. If you wish to consider me as an enemy or think that my posts are driven by malice that is entirely up to you. I can tell you that they are not.
When it comes to abuse you only need to look at some of the comments directed against myself or, better still, read back over Gas' posts about Mick McCarthy. People do not seem to have a problem abusing people on this site under the cover of total anonymity. The comments on Sol Campbell were nauseating considering the underlying phobia that seemed to underlie a lot of them. And you did not complain or say it was wrong.
What you may consider abuse from me is not actually so. I base my considerations on what I read on this site and make inferences (whether rightly or wrongly) based on those contributions.

And, tellingly, the two people on this site I have the greatest problem with are Man Ure supporters. This may very well say something about me.

The Gas and Madam.

Only people who agree with the owners are allowed to enter. Those who disagree will be hectored and abused until they give up and leave. The most common insult to dissuade the unworthies from entering is that they "have had a sense of humour by-pass". Other common insults are that people are racist and homophobic in spite of the fact that one of the owners has no problems with his cronies posting ill-disguised "humourous" insults about Sol Campbell's private life.

The other owner lives in an imaginary world where he is married to a lady from the Kingdom. We know this is a fantasy because no self-respecting Kerrywoman would ever, EVER marry a Dub.

JDR you may have the patience to engage in debate with half-wits and fantasists but I do not envy you the task.

2. Mick McCarthy
3. The prawn sandwiches
4. Alf Inge Haaland
5. Jack Charlton
6. The lack of shopping opportunities for the players wives and girlfriends in Ipswich
7. Insert your own excuse here

As regards your previous comments regarding the FAI fat cats and Roy Keane you should know that the vast majority of FAI officials are working in a voluntary capacity and do not receive any salary. For giving up their free time their only occasional perk was a trip abroad with the international team.

Roy Keane, on the other hand, was on £100k per week.

Puts it into context, doesn't it?
