Me and Me and Orson Welles 6:03pm on 27 Nov 2009 Feel good film of the year. Easy: Up. No film this year has made he walk out of the cinema and feel better about what life has to offer ahead of me, the film is beautiful and now with 10 nominees allowed for the Best Picture category I am sure Pixar will get the nomination they have truly deserved since the day of Toy Story.
The Serious Coens 1:20pm on 24 Nov 2009 I think it's a great argument you put forward and I love the Coens as much as the next person but the two flaws in that argument I think are Intolerable Cruelty and that terrible remake of the Ladykillers, which both prove how mainstream and perfunctory their work can be. However because in their back catalogue they have No Country, Fargo and now A Serious Man I believe they will always manage to make films which keep that independant spirit and in these times where studios are cutting back on production and limiting budget, keeping the indie circuit alive and trying to keep their work unique and original I think they are wonderful.
Screening Room: Animation & Aardman 4:38pm on 19 Nov 2009 Favourite: Lion King for reasons of childhood and being a part of my growing up, and essentially for introducing me to the delights of Shakespeare.
Least favourite: Shark Tale, a very bad animation clearly aimed at kids but has jokes about films like Goodfellas which would fly straight over the top of kid's heads and they weren't even funny in the first place.
The Best Christmas Movie Ever 3:16pm on 14 Nov 2009 Best: It's A Wonderful Life or Muppet Christmas Carol (Depending on the mood)
Worst: By a country mile it's The Star Wars Holiday Special. Which makes my list for one of the worst things I have ever seen.

In fact the latest of this genre is The Road, which I think is a terrific post apocalyptic drama, beautifully and devastatingly rendering the world being a deserted wasteland, plus featuring a haunting score from Nick Cave as well as Viggo Mortensen's best performance to date, and further proving Mark's theory that he is indeed the next Robert De Niro.
Bride Wars Revisited 10:09pm on 10 Nov 2009 Whilst perhaps you may be just teasing us, no one wants you to quit and why would you, you've got the best job in the world with good fans who have your respect and lust after your opinion in order to shape their own or find which movies we should see in the cinema, you have provided me and the majority of the people on this site with the best entertainment about films on the BBC for years, so if by the end of the year there are ten films worse than Bride Wars who cares. There's always going to be a Let the Right One In, a Pan's Labyrinth, a There Will Be Blood there in that for you to cherish over and love and make you feel all warm and cuddly about cinema. So if it were to come to that conundrum just think what you're leaving behind. Until that point, Couples Retreat is far worse than Bride Wars.

The Greatest Megabudget Movie Ever Made 1:52pm on 30 Sep 2009 Oh also, as mentioning Howard the Duck as the greatest multi-million dollar blockbuster you are placing it above the great Lord of the Rings. Which is utterly stupid.
The Greatest Megabudget Movie Ever Made 1:49pm on 30 Sep 2009 Howard the Duck is awful film with jokes that fall completely flat and are childish and so immature they wouldn't look out of place in a Judd Apatow film. Firstly it supposedly allows us to believe that ducks with human attachments are funny, that a duck having an intimate scene with a human is subversive when actually it is terribly misjudged. On top of this you have the ridiculous of no one freaking out over an intergalatic duck that dances and talks, then it goes into absolutely outrageous (and not funny) territory when he gets a job. Irritating performances, lousy special effects give us a turkey of gigantic proportions. Trust George Lucas to come up with a stinker like this.
Cost report 3:38pm on 19 Sep 2009 Hi Mark, a bit off topic but I've heard around that you dislike some of the films considered classics such as The Deer Hunter, Once Upon a Time in America, Titanic and Schindler's List. I'm sure we would like to hear your opinions on each of these and why you don't like them
