Why 'adolescent America' has to grow up 03:57am on 28 Oct 2009 This comment is very true.The US like all New Kids On The Block(NKOB) thinks that they are the best in everything and the whole world must emulate them.They try to push down the throats of others from the system of government,finance, religion medicine etc.Look at Iraq,Afghanistan,East Europe,Central Asia,South America and Africa.All these problems are from the this attitude of the US.I am not saying that the values of America are wrong,I am just America needs to grow up and take a second look at others and themselves.Buddhists have a saying,before you point your hand at others,point three fingers at yourself first.This comment was true 2500 years ago and is still true now.
Meaasuring the threat 4:15pm on 06 Aug 2009 I do agree with willre1313 #2.These guys have chosen Australia as their home out of free choice,it was never forced upon them and they are are free to leave whenever and wherever they choose.If they so chooses to attack the Australian state,then they are traitors and should be treated as such.
Rudd unlikely to do as Romans do on Rio 3:43pm on 15 Jul 2009 It seems very puzzling to me as to why should the Prime Minister of Australia be involved in a case of suspected commercial spying.These men are not accused of spying for the state of Australia,they are accused of spying for their company,Rio Tinto.Their actions are for their own narrow interests,unless,of course the Australian Government is somehow involved.Can the executives of a company that back out of a contract that the world whole knows about be trusted to keep their word to the Australian people and government that they are not involved in spying?Hello,they cannot even honour a contract signed in front of the world.Kevin Rudd may just get a shock of his life that those not so lily white executives lied to him and the Australian people.

The world has moved from that.Open your eyes, ears and hearts ,listen to the the Chinese authorities first before making your judgements.The Chinese government will charge these people at the time of their choice,just as the Australian will choose to charge any Chinese caught spying on Australian soil on its own time,not due to pressure from the Chinese government.
When does old age begin? 3:37pm on 24 May 2009 The prefix "lao" is added when addressing a person is not just about age.It is also a sign of respect that is given for a person's knowledge or experience in a field.In this respect Mr Reynolds here would be called Lao Reynolds when it comes to his knowledge of China.So it comes as no surprise that the Chinese were astonished as to how the British Minister for environment was not even a science person
The right qualifications 3:51pm on 09 May 2009 I have been a paediatrician since 1982,I must say that I see things differently now than when I was a young paediatrician 27 years ago.I do agree that a minister in charge of a particular ministry should have experience or be familiar with that field and with age you get to see your objectives clearer.Chinese people tend to see the world differently from westerners.We see the world in the longer run,rather than the immediate future.So for those who are worried about China's carbon emissions,China has had a long history of sufferings whenever environmental disasters struck.They are fully aware of this and understand the need for green technology to survive.They do not need westerners to lecture them.
Fortress Australia 4:34pm on 04 May 2009 To AnonymousCalifornian #39.You said that "original" China was only from modern Hubei province in China?The present majority Chinese are called Han Chinese after the Han dynasty.It was and is not a racial classification.My ancestors were from southern China and people like me are as Hans as those from Hubei even though we cannot communicate verbally,looked different and eat different food and can even have different religions.China has always been a secular,non racist and inclusive nation far far longer than most countries.That is why today despite its size and both geographical and biological differences,92% of the 1300+ million Chinese feel that are of a single race despite the differences.So do not think that only western countries today are the tolerant,inclusive and secular.We have been there long before you.

1)Countries recognises the one-China policy because they need trade?Sir, is it not better for China not to trade with people it does not agree than to bomb or blockade them into submission?
2)China uses proxies in its wars?Sir the British are the masters of divide and rule.At one time almost all the dictators of South Americas,Asia and Africa were /are proxies of USA. Their weapons for war or suppression were from US.The present wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were partly started by US/Britain why back in the 70s.Need you need to know more?
Defining relationships 4:04pm on 02 Apr 2009 China's relationship with The US and the English speaking countries will defined the history of this century.As a ethnic Chinese but English educated,I feel that there is too much unfounded fears on the rise of China,especially in the Anglo world.The advice, by Deng Xiaoping is a behavior, common to Chinese.Others may view it as the cunning Chinaman,waiting for his time,but that is what the Chinese,described as a stoic people do.Centuries of deprivation had taught us, that it was and is the best solution, other than to go and fight.China had not tried to impose its Han culture or religion on others.Tibetans today still speak Tibetan and have Tibetan names.In actual fact,China is the world's largest Buddhist nation.By contrast Nelson Mandela,Hugo Chavez(of Venezuela)and Evo Morales(President of Bolivia) do not have their native names and neither do they practice their native religions.Westerners should see themselves in this light before they accuse others.
Taking the new year train 3:02pm on 15 Jan 2009 This is a part of Chinese culture that westerners need to understand.Chinese people are basically inward looking ,family orientated not aggresive towards others.That has been the behaviour of China through the ages.It has not sought conquest or colonisation of others at a time when it could have easily done so,more than a 100 years before the earliest Europeans ever set foot into Asia or Africa and even America.Do not fear China's rise.it will be peacefull.It do not have any aggresive designs on others. The only situation that will provoke China will be a threat to its survival as a single country.
