The Culture Show: Screening Room 2:41pm on 31 Jul 2009 I find it strange how Mark says that a rock documentary as unflattering as 'Gimme Shelter' can in no way be made in this day in age. Well, in this 7 minute clip, you already mentioned 'Anvil! The Story of Anvil!' and 'Some Kind of Monster' - two documentaries that don't really do anything to promote the band made within the last 5 years or so.

In the day of information, I'd imagine we'd get even more films about music with a vast array of agendas.

It looks like film does still have the power to shock people... well, Christopher Hart at least.

Terminator Redemption? 1:55pm on 23 Jun 2009 While we're all attacking the Good Doctor for his bias towards and against certain genres, can I point out his disatisfaction and blatant prejudice against American comedy. Christopher Guest aside, I have a feeling that Mr Kermode will already have a formed opinion in his mind upon seeing an American comedy, even if he doesn't realise this.

My point is following from his review of 'The Hangover' a solid, breezy 'bromance' comedy, complete with a mixture of the clever and the crude and a thread of heart without having sentimentality shoe horned into the last act. Not a classic, but it's a welcome comedic gem.

Back to 'Terminator: Salvation' though... it was awful. But I have to admit, it didn't offend me as much as Transformers.
Another encounter with Werner Herzog 1:42pm on 21 Apr 2009 Herzog is a man to be admired, however I would like to go off topic and write about my sadness for the loss of the great author J G Ballard.

A man of extraordinary talent and profound wit that as not only shaped literature, but the world of music and cinema. We should be grateful for the work we have and mourn the writings we'll miss.

I shall watch this this weekend, so I'll confirm as to whether I agree with my flippant wagon jumping decision)

Best Actor - Malcolm McDowell (Never Apologize) Not technically acting, but the most captivating performance I've witnessed this year.

Best Actress - Belen Rueda (The Orphanage)

Best Music - Max Richter (Waltz With Bashir)
