You correct me... ish 1:20pm on 12 May 2009 I completely agree on Firefly and Serenity.

In fact, Serenity was the first film I went to see on my own because I was so convinced it was going to be brilliant, and Firefly was relatively unknown amongst my peers at the time.

I obtained Firefly when it was £17.99 in HMV in 2005 before Serenity was out, but it was not me who first bought it. My friend did but didn't spend the time to actually watch it, so I traded her a hoodie for it. Best trade ever.

Still gutted that it looks like there will never be any more Firefly (though saying that, if it did continue, who's to say it would be as good!).

I saw Coraline 3D and Star Trek on Sunday.
Coraline is no where near as scary as I was lead to believe, maybe rather creepy in an ironically Nightmare Before Christmas way; In that I didn't see the latter for years because when it was on TV, it was only shown at 1AM due to it's apparently not being suitable for children, which is rubbish.

Star Trek was brilliant, I thoroughly enjoyed watching it, though didn't enjoy the subsequent arguing with my partner over several of the issues in it surrounding continuity, not within the film itself but within the franchise as a whole, including the resetting of it.
Avast ye blogarrrrrs: Movie piracy and you 3:38pm on 01 May 2009 Having worked in a cinema two years ago I do have a little insight in to how they are run.

What I know from what I've been told or experienced:

Food is generally not allowed in because cinemas make most of their money from the food they sell, and make little off of the ticket sales (they claim).

However having cleaned screens many times, we don't always catch everyone, if food is taken in with you in a bag where no one can see it, we couldn't take it off you. It's only if it's really obviously in a shopping bag or something. I've previously found beer bottles in screens.

I've had people complain profusely about the prices of the food, then gone to clean a screen where little of it was actually eaten.

There is an obscene amount of food wasted daily in cinemas, and the staff aren't allowed the leftovers at the end of the day (from the concession stalls, not from the screens, that would be gross) , it all has to go in the bin.

The cinema I worked at does work on the seat assigning thing, but only really enforced it at big film launches or when someone comes out and complains.

The Cineworld in Cardiff (not where I worked) stopped using allocated seats not that long after opening, I presume so they can have less staff, because they don't need people overseeing seating).

I used to go to a neat little cinema called the Monico just outside of Cardiff. I remember paying £2.50 for a ticket to see The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (this was when cineworld was UGC and charging £3 minimum for their children/early bird tickets) and it had an interval! It was admittedly smaller screens, but the difference in service was phenominal.

Currently living in Oxford, I rarely go to the cinema, not having a car means I can't easily get to the far away Kassam Vue cinema and I don't want to pay the same amount of money to the Odeons in town whose screens resemble those you might find aboard a ferry, and whose seats are in need of maintenance.
You talking to me 8:50pm on 09 Feb 2009 My Grandad (now deceased) was German and came here during the war. He learnt English mostly from watching films.

Also I'm dyslexic, not in the usual ways but still have problems with words. I prefer to see films with subtitles to hear the voices cast as intended and the script as it was meant to be.

One particular line change I loathed from Spirited Away, occurs when Zeniba's illusion of herself is destroyed.

Original: "Oh my, I was careless"
Dubbed: "Ooooo! A Papercut!"
Return to the Third Dimension 08:54am on 27 Jan 2009 I'm rather worried about this whole '3D revolution' especially with people working on 3D televisions.
My partner can only see properly out of one eye, and thus cannot see in 3D.
If the only option in a cinema is to see the 3D version, we won't be going as he cannot enjoy it.
'2D' cinema is much more viewer friendly especially to those who have vision difficulties. Both myself and my partner wear glasses, and we would have to put the 'sunglasses' over them in order to see.

3D still feels gimicky to me, I can't see how it's changed much from the @bristol Imax days when you'd go to see a film composed of various shorts just showing off the way things fly at you. And I don't particularly have any desire to see homer's computer rendered face pulled into a black hole from the comfort of my home.

I really do intend to see Inkheart before it leaves the cinema. I generally don't like Adam Sandler anyway (excepting for some reason in 50 first dates) so not going to be seeing Bedtime Stories!

Thinking of Brendan Fraser and casting my mind back on Journey to the Center...Centaur...Centre of the Earth:
I have yet to see any of these 3D films as my boyfriend only really sees out of one eye, and thus cannot see through 3D glasses. Would you recommend them at all? If so, which?
Should I go see them or are they nothing special? (bare in mind that I've done the @bristol 3D Imax thing as well as having visited Futuroscope -somewhere I'd recommend to almost everyone).

I have been trying to contribute via email to your 5live spot with Simon Mayo, but as I can only listen to this via podcast, I don't seem to get the right email address, especially as it seems to change throughout the day depending on what is currently on (something I only realised after sending two emails on different things).

My main point in the last one was. What is with these copycat kids films? The list is huge, but to name a few; A Bugs Life and Antz, Shark Tale and Finding Nemo, Madagascar and The Wild, and currently Inkheart and Bedtime Stories.
