New ice age for bankers 9:37pm on 18 Dec 2009 Hoorah for the Basel commitee. I can't see it followed through though. Lets see if these fantasticly talented individuals can be driven into other industries where there undoubted skills will generate fortunes for thereselves and create jobs and wealth for all.

RBS board to quit if chancellor vetoes £1.5bn in bonuses 4:20pm on 04 Dec 2009 Accept the resignations and advertise the opositions and we will see the difficulty we would have in finding replacements.

I'm planning on changing my banking from Barclays and my wife and kids are. If they are planning huge wage rises I don't want to associate with them as I'm currently suffering from wage cuts.

Anyone know a good responsible bank?????

FSA, BofE, HMG and even HRH do not have any influence over the city.
They will carry on as they want.
Money is power and we have given it all to the banks.
I'm sure Sir Fred feels like he has been savaged by a dead sheep to quote a politician who have all the authority of the said sheep.
They will pay exactly how high bonuses they want to and they will be obscenely enormous again.
Only the the common mugs like me trying to scratch a living out of manufacturing and paying my meagre taxes will suffer again.
Only fools and horses indeed.

Does anyone actually believe that either Mervyn King or Adair Turner will actually do anything to alter the behaviour of the investment bankers.

Even if the banks are split down the bankers will still strip massive bonuses during the good times and will be long gone before the chickens come home to roost. You're all still living in cloud cookoo land.

Britain will suffer longer and harder than the rest of Europe because we've destroyed our manufacturing industry.

Think of the wealth and jobs you've exported whilst driving your German cars.

I'd love to think that British people would take note of your sentiments but I'm afraid British people are just too thick. They'll carry on buying German, Japanese and soon Chinese cars and exporting jobs. Even the government subsidise them to buy foriegn cars.

Similarly if we all brought British goods we have the power ourselves to make Britain Great again.
How long will China finance America? 6:26pm on 15 Jul 2009 Chinese growth is driven by manufacturing and will continue until living standards in China approach those of America.

When are we going to realise only Manufacturing and Exports can increase standards of living. Germany have long since learnt this lesson.

Britain needs to value manufacturing industry before it has gone for good.
Why didn't MG Rover's inspectors call in cops? 8:02pm on 12 Jul 2009 Governments haven't cared about manufacturing industry since Thatcher. She sold Rover to British Aerospace who massively asset stripped it. When they sold it to BMW they took the Mini and the 4x4 engineering and made the cars side of the business unprofitable to kill a competitor. The Pheonix 4 carried on the tradition and asset stripped what they could and the final indignity is the enquiry team making 16 million out of the taxpayers.
It's a national disgrace.
