Time for some Sol searching, Campbell 1:21pm on 25 Sep 2009 Clearly he has some kind of mental stability problem. Either way, there is NO WAY he'll ever play for England again. I think he shut that door when he signed for county in the first place.
Its not working for him here, so maybe the US would be a good idea. I heard that plenty of foreign sides were looking at him anyway, so it may not be a bad idea to have a season or two in Greece or wherever, earning a lot of money but going "for the challenge".
Its a shame. I remember when he played at the back with Ledley King for England, one of the most complete centre back partnerships ever. Maybe it was Euro 2004, or even World cup 2002. Either way, they were great. the good old days....
Ferguson faces huge task in Europe 7:37pm on 14 Sep 2009 Said it time and time again, the best holding midfielder that was available to buy over the summer was Wes Sneijder. He could have been that middle link for man utd, to replace Scholes and provide the delivery for the strikers. He's got a hell of a strike, can tackle, run with the ball and is great going forward. Inter got a bargain at 16ml euros. He also has CL experience and has played for two top class sides (Ajax & Real Madrid), which is more than can be said for Antonio Valencia who cost the same amount. Im not going to doubt Fergie, because his trophy cabinet speaks for itself, but I think Sneijder would have been that link that allowed Rooney to roam as a striker, whilst keeping the midfield under control.
I could still see United turning Real over if it came to it. Liverpool destroyed them last season, and Madrid were only saved from total humiliation by Iker Casillas.
Ronaldo will never shine at Madrid like he did at Man utd, but Fergie was a champion before Ronaldo, and he will be after Ronaldo.
Liverpool need to start getting the best out of Babel, and they need much more depth than they have now. They arent strong enough without Torres or Gerrard, and Aquialani isnt going to just hop in to replace Alonso without a bit of time to adjust.
Chelsea are nearly-boys, and they will be this year. Semi finals maybe, but no more than that. Although, if anyone is going to win with a group of ageing stars it Ancelotti - just look at his Milan side!
I'm not a top-four, or even a premier league fan, so this is simply an outsiders opinion....
Chelsea will suffer if transfer ban stands 9:39pm on 03 Sep 2009 Bless them. Still, if anyone in the world has experience of working with, and winning with, and ageing team, its Ancelotti. The average age of AC Milan's back four the last time they won the chamions league must have been late 50's. They'll be fine.
Transfer deadline day Q&A 5:07pm on 02 Sep 2009 Hmmm. I would have said it was a very unremarkable transfer window, with most "big" signings going on around Europe (with the obvious exception of Man City). With Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter and Ac Milan collecting big name players, there seemed little competition from Premier league sides. As a fan of a lower league club (Lincoln City if you must know) I dont really care about who goes in/out of top flight teams. However, i struggle to understand why, with all the big name players flying around, why none were brought to England. Id have thought, for Man Utd looking for a long term replacement to Scholes, Wes Sneijder would have been as close to perfect as they could have got. The mans a superb central/attacking midfielder, and Inter got a bargain at 16€ or whatever it was. Even Arsenal could have done with a player like him!Huntelaar was another one of the Dutch group leaving Madrid, as well as Robben. I fail to see how either of them would not have interested ANY premier league teams enough to put up a fight.
Im also surprised Kranjcar stayed at Pompey this long. He'll do well at spurs, although the huge amount of quality they have in the midfield will make it hard for him to play consistently.
Liverpool have NO strength in depth at all. Torres and/or Gerrard get injured and theyll struggle to reach the top four/five. Ngog and El Zsar are not worthy replacements and never will be, Glen johnson wasnt worth £17, and Aquilani is going to need time to settle in to this league.
Im also find it hard to believe that Shevchenko wasnt worthy of a slot in any prem side. He would surely have proved to be a more worthy back-up to Torres than Voronin?! Its impossible to go from being one of the greatest marksmen in europe to nothing over night. thanks chelsea........
Bolt after the Blues 3:30pm on 17 Aug 2009 Usain Bolt is incredible. How can the man be fast?! Wasnt there an advert for nike where Cristiano Ronaldo raced a Bugatti Veyron? Get Bolt doing that and the car makers will have to start again!
Joleon Lescott pretty much typifies the pampered, spoilt and arrogant modern day footballer. "im not in the right frame of mind". Well son, GET in the right frame of mind. Are a you a professional or not? You're being paid god knows how much to play the game, you have thousands of people supporting you, people to whom Everton will always mean so much more than you and your sad little tantrums, so the least you can do is get your teddy back in the pram, do your job and act your bloody age. There, I said it, I feel better. Just because the players have got another club looking at them they think they can go on strike until they get their own way. If i turned to my boss and said "sorry, dont feel in the right frame of mind to be working today, theres another place that ive got an interview at and their offering me loads of cash, so my heads all confused, its probably best if I stay at home today", I wonder what i'd get told...........
Farewell Sir Bobby 3:08pm on 03 Aug 2009 Probably the best blog you've ever done. A shame it has to be about something so sad. The best ambassador to football England has ever had. I think it takes someone special to make so many clubs accross Europe pull together, forget rivalries and national borders and say that they are all mourning the loss of a great man who affected all of them, and will be a part of their history forever. Who really cares who signs for who, or how big Ronaldo's new mansion right now?
Seba Veron, an heir to Cerezo 2:50pm on 20 Jul 2009 There have been so many players with great reputations move from Italy to England, and I think it is hard to pinpoint where it all goes wrong for them. Chelsea and Manchester United seem to be the ones that bring the players in who arrive with massive reputations, yet live up to little. Crespo was superb in Italy, yet only showed glimpses of his brilliance in the Premier League. Although not South American, there can be no denial that Shevchenko was one of the finest goalscorers in Europe at Ac Milan, yet he doesnt seem to cut it at Chelsea. Is it just the drastic difference between styles and standards of play? Can you really be considered world class if you cant adapt? Would Messi (for arguements sake) be the same dazzling genius in England as in Spain, or would he fail?
However, I do echo many of the previous posters in saying that I am glad to see Veron doing well, and that his talent is undoubted. Its just a shame we never got to see the 'real' Seba in England. I am also glad to see Ronaldo doing well back in his homeland. Quite possibly the finest and most lethal striker of my generation and someone that I always enjoyed watching.

Arsenal will not miss Adebayor 12:20pm on 16 Jul 2009 I hate to be a cynic, but I've never rated Adebayor, in the same way that I never rated Drogba. I dont doubt that he is a good player, we've all seen himn score some great goals, but I just dont think he's good enough to play for a 'top four' side.
Bendtner however, is a waste of space. Thats all i have to say about him.
Vela will come good, given time and Premier league experience, not just the odd trot about against Bury in the carling cup. As long as Eduardo and Van Persie stay fit, Arsenal shouldnt have any problems scoring.
Its not a good move for Adebayor to Man City, as it probably isnt for any of them, because it will be a forced rotation policy, where no-one will get a full game apart from Tevez and Barry. Adebayor and Santa Cruz will not play at the same time, when Bellamy and Robinho will have to fit in there somewhere as well.
On another note, spare a thought for John Hartson this week.

Everything you say is true sir. As a fan of a non-premier league club (admittedly further down than Boro) i can appreciate the stupidity of the money being thrown around. Thats not to say that fans of 'normal' EPL clubs dont appreciate said stupidity though...
Benzema has made a very bad choice with going to Real Madrid. Man utd are a much bigger and a much more stable club. Can you see Pellegrini in charge at Christmas? No. He'll be down the European job centre, in line behind Mark Hughes. Benzema would have been given game after game after game at Man Utd, in the best League in the world. Here he would have truly had the opportunity to justify a lavish price tag, whereas at Madrid he will be simply another expensive player. Ronaldo, for all his diving, cheating and petulance, was a star in England. Through this, he was always going to leave for a hefty sum that is not necessarily justifiable, but understandable. Benzema isnt proven quality. Hes spent his career in the French league (which is behind England, Spain, Italy, Germany and Holland domestic leagues, in my opinion). The ONLY league in the world where he could have played, and defined himself as a 'world class' player would have been at Man Utd.
On another not, i bet Boro are laughing at Villa. £12ml for Downing?! i'd have paid £7ml tops, and that would have been a push........
